Twinnie completed her Blue Hour circle on 28th June 2024. After the EP Blue Hour (After Dark) released in October 2023 and the Christmas release Blue Christmas (which I did not feature), she is back with a new EP Blue Hour (Before The DawnI). She was definitely on the top of my list of releases I wanted to have a detailed listen to.
Twinnie – About The Artist
Twinnie is a British country pop artist, who is nowadays living in Nashville. She has had multiple appearances on European stages before. I initially featured her at a Sound of Nashville event in Cologne in March 2019, where she was supporting Lindsay Ell – one of my first country music concert features overall. You will thus find a lot of bio about her on Flyctory.com. If you include all acoustic releases, the EP is her sixth overall. It is “officially” closing her being a sad girl. She is releasing a happy song, Hey Y’all Hey, in parallel, which is not on Blue Hour (Before The Dawn). I featured Twinnie in a Spotlight interview in February 2024.
Twinnie – Blue Hour (Before The Dawn) – Track by Track
The six song EP lasts 20 minutes.
1. Girl in Your Songs
The first three songs of the EP have already been released as singles. The opener is the latest of them, the May 2024 release Girl in Your Songs. I really like that one, as it has the direct and personal style with the cheekiness I loved about her music when I initially ran into her.
‘Cause when I turn up the dial and I wonder (Hey)
Is she holding your hand while you drive?
Do you tell her that you love her
While I’m driving you out of your mind?
I’m a sucker for you and that guitar
‘Cause you play thosе strings like you play my heart
She thinks thеy’re all about her but she’d be wrong
Yeah, she’s your girl, but I’m the girl in your songs
2. Take a Break (feat. Max Boyle)
Take a Break has been recorded with Nashville-based Max Boyle. Twinnie is asking Can we take a break? in this ballad, which is having some nice piano-driven parts as well as more angry sections. A nice balance of emotions and typical Twinnie-style songs.
3. The Greatest Love Story
We were the greatest love story never told – this song is also illustrating the topic of this EP. It is about unfortunate love, breaking up, sadness. Twinnie’s lovely and unique voice is in focus of this song again. The background singers leave a slightly kitschy touch, but the song is a nice one.
4. Crazy Ex
Twinnie fans might rather focus on the second half of the EP, which is featuring the new song releases. We’re all somebody’s crazy ex is the key phrase of a song, which Twinnie explicily dedicated to her female followers. The song has a rather pop-ish touch.
5. London
Sadness often come with homesickness, so that this homage to the British capital is maybe not that surprising. I miss London, I do, but I can’t be in London without you. The song is another beautiful, melancholic ballad with a very melancholic touch.
6. Paying Interest
The closing song Paying interest is my favorite of the three new songs. First of all, it has this nice, fast country-pop vibes. But majorly, it is a typical Twinnie write with that touch of irony in her songs. I’m still paying interest and you’re not paying interest to me. A lovely way to combine the financial and emotional impact of a break-up.

Twinnie – Blue Hour (Before The Dawn) – My View
Twinnie is profiting from two key characteristics of her music on this EP. First of all, there is this lovely, straight way by her do to music. Secondly, she is just an amazing, adorable singer. I still feel that her U.K. releases felt a bit of straighter and people loved her for being different. But this one has a good bunch of that spirit already again. Miss seeing this lady on stage.
