The long 15th February 2025 match day at Sportpark Nord in Bonn closed with the men’s first teams’ match between SSF Dragons Bonn and ETV PiranHHas Hamburg. In that Floorball Bundesliga battle, the teams determined the second place in the league after the regular season. SSF Dragons Bonn – ETV PiranHHas Hamburg – Match Report

After the 2nd Men Bundesliga and the Women Bundesliga matches before have been comparably slow, this match started with high speed and intensity. And it also started with a quick goal. Paul Dall’s flat shot to the far post marked Hamburg’s lead just after 79 seconds had been played. However, the Hamburg hopes were harmed seven minutes later. Emil Kallio drove a left wing fast break in the ninth minute and passed to Adrian Stein, who tied the score. Less than thirty seconds later, Jan Zwak gave the Dragons the first-time lead with a precise shot.

Bonn felt very energized now and also were just incredible in converting their offensive opportunities. Florian Weißkirchen scored an incredible goal in the 13th minute. He did not only steal a cross pass in the Hamburg defense, he shot directly and converted for the host team. 41 seconds later, his teammate Kallio even increased the score to 4-1 – the fourth goal for Bonn within five minutes. Even though Bonn could not keep this rhythm, they had another one in stock. 65 seconds before the first buzzer it was Kallio again, who cared for an incredible intermission score of 5-1. A brutal result for Hamburg, who did not play that bad, but Bonn was simply on fire in these 20 minutes.

No Goals in the Second Period

After the incredibly high pace in the first period, the match slowed down a bit in the second one. There were a few discussions and physical situations here and there. One lead to a bench penalty for the PiranHHas (30th, Birger Dethlefsen). Overall, the defensive lines worked well in this period, which overall increased the comfort for the Dragons.

PiranHHas Comeback Too Late

After just two minutes in the third period, Adrian Stein felt to seal the lead with his first goal of the match. However, Hamburg did not give up. After surviving another short-handed situation, Philipp Wilbrand scored in the 50th minute. After Hamburg stole a throw-out by Bonn’s goalie Kristaps Novikovs, a Bonn defender stopped the ball in the goalkeeper’s area and thus gave Hamburg the penalty shot. Right before the third Hamburg goal, there was a fantastic save by their goalie Nicolas Flathmann in a fast break. Luca Vogel did it better on the other side of the rink and closed up to 6-3 in the 53rd minute.

You just cannot say Hamburg did not try to come back. In the 54th minute, they started to pull Flathmann and pushed the game into Bonn’s half of the rink. However, Novikovs and his team played a good defense. Unavoidably, there were empty-netter opportunities. Zwak converted one of them in th 58th minute. Paul Dall managed to score another goal. However, at that point, there was just a remaining time of 38 seconds, so that this was just too short for Hamburg to go for more.
