While most of my lounge reviews deal with airport and airline lounges, I am always flattered to also visit lounge for rail passengers. My trip to Innsbruck gave me the opportunity to have my first-ever visit at an Austrian Rail Lounge / ÖBB Lounge. Here is my review of the lounge at Innsbruck Main Station.
ÖBB Lounge Innsbruck – Location & Access
The ÖBB Lounge is located on the lower level of the main hall of Innsbruck Main Station. This is also the level at which you head to most of the platforms. The lounge is rather centrally located in that hall, which features several other kinds of service.
The lounge is operating daily, from 5:45 to 21:45. On Saturdays and Sundays, it opens at 6:15. There are numerous ways to get into the lounge. The standard way s a First Class ticket with a minimum ticket price of 15 Euro or a sleeper car ticket for the Nightjet. You can also use the Klimaticket Ö, the Austrian rail network ticket, if you have a first class upgrade for it. The lounge also accepts any higher status from Railteam alliance members. You can also use the lounge if you have a First Class Interrail, Eurail or European East Pass (valid for Austria). Second class ticket holders (apart from Nightjet seating car tickets) can also use the lounge for a 10 Euro buy-in.
ÖBB Lounge Innsbruck – Atmosphere
The ÖBB Lounge in Innsbruck is not overwhelmingly large. I guess their flagship one in Vienna is significantly larger. Nonetheless, there are cozy seats (all more or less in the same style) and small tables, which moved quite a bit while using them for work. Power outlets are provided under the seat. There are also some barstool-alike seats, with a higher table, but this section was used for the buffet. I liked the screen in the background showing some Austrian sights. The lounge was very clean and felt well-maintained.
ÖBB Lounge Innsbruck – Food & Drink
One side of the lounge features a drink and snack buffet. Compared to German rail lounges, for example, ÖBB is superior in that category. Apart from (bottled) soft drinks and a coffee machine for hot drinks, they also offer some snacks. For example, there were nuts, some sweets, fresh fruit and rice waffles during my visit. The buffet is small, but rather nice.
ÖBB Lounge Innsbruck – Services
The staff at the ÖBB Lounge Innsbruck was friendly. Free WiFi is provided by the ÖBB network in the station itself. The lounge does not have any sanitary facilities. In order to use the bathroom, you have to use the (paid) public toilet. There are also newspapers in the lounge, but no magazines or similar.
ÖBB Lounge Innsbruck – My View
The ÖBB Lounge at Innsbruck Main Station is neither large nor overwhelmingly posh. But that’s also not really what you would expect likely. It is nice, well maintained, functional and offers some nice drink and snack options. The staff is friendly, it is much more comfortable than waiting somewhere else in the building. So it is a good deal. I did not like the small tables too much and I love the comfort in Germany of having a toilet in the lounge. Nonetheless, I was really happy with this experience.
