  • Coll classic (hard) rock sound
  • Good lyrics
  • A very straight and fun listen

Atlantis Drive is a brand new hard rock band. The roots are from Germany, but the band features international band members. On 14th June 2024, the band is releasing their first, self-titled album. I already had a listen.

Atlantis Drive – About The Artist

The first single release by Atlantis Drive, Way Back Then, is dated as of April 2024. Apart from the two single releases so far from the Atlantis Drive album, the quartet has not released music before. They do hard rock with a strong 1980’s touch. The band was initiated by Markus Pfeffer (Barnabas Sky / guitars, bass). US-American Mark Boals (Ring of Fire, Shining Black) is the singer of the band. Jorris Guilbaud plays the synth, while Markus Kullmann is the drummer of the band.

Atlantis Drive – Atlantis Drive – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 49 minutes.

1. Way Back When

The album opens with the single release Way Back Then. Already in the first minute, you feel the direction of Atlantis Drive and their music. The song starts with with keyboard synths, before the guitars give the right hard rock energy level. Only the lyrics remind that we are a few decades after the 1980’s – verses like There were no smartphones in our hands is an example. Really nice song with nostalgic sound and nostalgic lyrics.

2. Medusa Smile

The album continues with the catching Medusa Smile. The song comes with a fine melody. Mark Boals is doring a great job presenting the story of the song on the microphone. Nice!

3. Living For The Moment

In recent times, I have seen a bunch of shows of the Rock of Ages musical. The hymnic Living For The Moment would be a great piece for a 1980’s style rock musical as well. The chorus is also touching any rock music lover’s heart – I really like this one.

I’m living for the moment
No worries or regrets
Won’t think about tomorrow
I’m living for today
Before it goes away

4. Brand New Start

Today, we’re making a brand new start – to send this message, Atlantis Drive takes out the acoustic guitars. The gentle rock strummer works nicely as one of the very emotional moments. A lovely track to sing-a-long with the band – or your Spotify playlist.

5. United

Okay, we have been emotional – let’s rock again. That’s about the feeling when I faced the massive riffs at the beginning of United. The song encourages people to work to work together (together we will stand). A song which relates to so many situations – and which has the potential to cause some big rock party in case Atlantis Drive step on stage as well.

6. Curtain Falls

Curtain Falls is a bit harder and more heavy than the songs before. The groovy style of the song turns it to a very characteristic song of the album. The lyrics are again feel very mature. .

7. Faith

The seventh song Faith has been the second single release before the album is shared. The song is very hymnic and has a clear presence of the synth part. A very confident song, which is again sending a strong message.

8. Time

Time is another track, in which there feels to be the perfect traditional hard rock harmony of guitars and synth melodies. There’s never enough time is the hook phrase of the song, which thus somehow reminds of Living For The Moment.

9. Farewell To A Friend

The title already suggests that this song will be rather on the melancholic side. However, this Farewell To A Friend also has some positive messages like love never dies. Nonetheless, this rock ballad is one of the most emotional moments on Atlantis Drive.

10. Heroes

Even though Farewell To A Friend has already been a 5:32 minute one, the really epic song on the album is missing yet. The chucker-out Heroes is taking over that specific role. With 8:37 minutes, it has the right time to invest into a lot of atmosphere. There are also background elements like the sound of rainfall. Nonetheless, the song also has some really hard rocking sections. They were heroes is the praise to the musical heroes of the band. Great finale!

Atlantis Drive – Atlantis Drive – My View

Atlantis Drive is a great debut album. The quartet presents some really nice rock and hard rock songs, from emotional songs to party tracks. More than that, they define the Atlantis Drive sound in these very first ten songs released by the multi-national project. I absolutely enjoyed it.
