Right before my wife and I visited the Wellnest Private Spa in Essen during the Christmas holidays of 2022, we felt it is a good idea to have a relaxed evening and morning before. Thus, we opted for hotel I had on my bucket list for quite some time, the Hilton Dusseldorf. Here is my review of our stay in the Northrhine Westphalia capital.

Hilton Dusseldorf – Location

The Hilton is located in the North of Dusseldorf. It is actually not too far away from Dusseldorf Airport (DUS), even though the public transport connections from there to the airport are average. However, the Theodor Heuss Brücke stop offers connection to underground, bus and rail. There is also another bus stop (Nordfriedhof, several lines ) in rather close distance to the hotel.

Apart from the hotel facilities, the area features some restaurants around. A key reason to visit the hotel is also the congress center with a lot of meeting rooms. If you come by car, there is an adjacent parking garage, which is charged with 25 EUR / night. The state of the parking garage was disgusting. There was water in several spots, a terrible smell and somebody had thrown up on the elevator door. This hasn’t been removed the next morning. The parking garage might not legally be part of the hotel, but serves as part of hotel parking. Its condition condition is simply unacceptable. There is a limited number of outdoor parking spaces driven by the hotel as well. You might also park at the street.

 

Hilton Dusseldorf – Room

We spend a night in the Hilton Dusseldorf during the Christmas holidays in 2022. The one day rate, semi-flex, was 97.85 EUR. Thereby we received an upgrade from the standard King Guest Room we booked to an Executive Room floor, in line with my Hilton Diamond status. Due to my status, we also had complimentary breakfast. The room was quite nice, not too special, but at least followed a more modern Hilton design. We really loved that apart from the complimentary water, the mini bar was for free. There were – of course – also coffee and tea making facilities. Personally, I enjoyed the large work desk quite much.

The bathroom was clean. While the area around the sink had quite some space, the room itself felt a bit of packed and narrow. My wife, however, loved the bathtub. We also enjoyed the proximity to the Executive Lounge. One design “feature” which is really weird, though, is that the spare toilet paper role is located right next to the toilet brush. The more you think about it, the more you question this setup.

 

Hilton Dusseldorf – Executive Lounge

Quite some German frequent travelers rate the Executive Lounge of Hilton Dusseldorf as the best Hilton Lounge in Germany, regarding the evening snack. And, indeed, the hotel is serving a proper hot meal in the lounge. Unfortunately, that also means that the lounge is extremely popular at these special times and sometimes hotel guests are a bit too offensive about their desire getting as many as good calories as possible for free. Also in regards of refilling food and the variety of drinks, the lounge is really nice. Outside these happy hours, it is also simply a great place to hang out, enjoy, work and have a drink.

 

Hilton Dusseldorf – Breakfast & Food

What would be a better start into Boxing Day than a really nice hotel breakfast? Hilton Dusseldorf masters this part of the stay easily. The service in the morning was really good, the selection and presentation of items absolutely met out expectations. There were also some seasonal items, which is, of course, a really nice thing.

Even though the hotel was not that crowded. there were also quite some people at the hotel bar, which seems to be really popular.

 

Hilton Dusseldorf – Service

Despite the holidays, most service were running. The staff was excellent and definitely one of the key reasons why many of my frequent traveler friends love the place. They also literally congratulated me to be Hilton Diamond – which is a bit of weird as I hold the status for a few years now. The internet connection worked very smoothly as well. The hotel is also driving a really nice gym.

 

Hilton Dusseldorf – My View

You just have to love this place somehow. The staff is good, the breakfast is nice and the executive lounge is excellent. However, the room does come with some cons and the parking garage is terrible. Only the fact that the (official hotel) garage is driven by another company saves the good rating of the Hilton hotel. Nonetheless, they have to push for a better quality there in my point of view.
