I really love connecting again with artists, who have already been part of my Spotlight interviews. In March 2025, I met Cory Marks during the C2C in Berlin 2025. Of course, we majorly talked about the festival and his plans during that time. Last week, Cory released his new album, Sorry For Nothing Vol. 2. A good opportunity to connect with him again. Hope you enjoy my chat with the Canadian country-rock artist.
Flyctory.com meets Cory Marks
FLYC: Cory, your new album is coming up this week. How do you feel about Sorry For Nothing Vol. 2?
Cory: It’s always exciting to be releasing new music — especially an entire album, and my second full-length record in under a year! It really is something special, with both Sorry For Nothing Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 coming out this Friday, blending country, rock, and even some hard rock, too.
FLYC: When you recorded the first part of it — which you released in December — did you already know that there would be a sequel?
Cory: I had written so many songs from 2021 to 2023, and there were many that I loved but didn’t want to get lost on one 22 to 24 track album. So we decided to make it in two parts. Both albums I’ve structured as if they were live sets – how I’d play them on stage, bringing the audience and listener on the best ride possible!
FLYC: The core tracks of the promotion campaign are right at the beginning of the album, Hangman and Are You With Me?. How has the feedback on those two songs been?
Cory: I think the people who’ve heard those songs and that sound have really loved it and found it special and unique. I just know there are many solid tracks on here – whether they lean more to the country side, the rock side, or the combination of both. I’m very proud of that and of my ability to do it, thanks to my co-writers and producers.

FLYC: Mentioning these two tracks and A Different Kind of Year, the third new song released as a single before — how do you and your team choose the songs which are finally the “appetizers” for the fans toward the album?
Cory: Honestly, some of these songs were recorded as far back as 2021 but just kept in a vault, basically, until a tour – be it in the U.S. or Canada – came up. We have so much music to choose from. The song A Different Kind of Year really says it all in the lyric – it was written 8,000 feet up on Mount Charleston in February 2021 with the Churko boys.
FLYC: In the world of streaming platforms and playlists, albums seem to have decreasing importance in the industry. How important are they to you as an artist?
Cory: Very important – and one of my favorite things to hear, something I’ve been told many times even going back to Who I Am, is that it’s never just three or four great songs. I’m trying to make a great album – a body or structure of songs that represents me best. But I also know we’re only human, and many – if not most – people can relate to my music. Some are just afraid to admit it or to stand tall and stand their ground. I’m hoping my music helps people with that.

FLYC: Would you say that Sorry for Nothing, the title of your last two albums, is somehow also the key message of it? That you do your thing and feel that’s your way?
Cory: Absolutely. I think our job as artists is to create and tell our story – to try and say things your own way and do things your own way, without being confined to what’s “working” for the gatekeepers and the industry that want that control. It shouldn’t be that way. There’s a big reason a lot of music across multiple genres today sounds so similar – because you’re being pigeonholed into it. That’s not what I got into this for, nor why I chose this path. However, let’s hope it works out! If not, I can still look back knowing we wrote great songs and made great music that connects with a lot of people — and will for a very long time. We did it how we wanted to do it. I guess that does make me sorry for nothing.
FLYC: From the nine songs which have not been released yet, do you have a favorite track or one you’d especially recommend people to listen to more closely?
Cory: Honestly, that’s a tough question because, like Vol. 1, every song tells its story and has its own meaning and special place for me. So I just hope whoever listens gives it a chance – and loves it all.
FLYC: What are your plans in the next months? Will you tour with Sorry for Nothing Vol. 2?
Cory: I’ll be hitting the road with Sevendust from November 14 to December 12 across the U.S. for 22 shows, my third U.S. tour in the last year. After that, I think I’m gonna take some time with the family, enjoy the holidays, and ask Santa for some major tours and festivals in 2026. Hopefully, I’ll get to play in eight countries again next year!
FLYC: The last time we met was at Country To Country 2025 in Berlin. How did you like your shows there overall — and do we have a chance to see you back in Europe soon?
Cory: C2C Berlin, my German tour outside of the festival, and the other C2C shows I played all felt incredible. I can’t wait to come back. For my first time over there, it was really something special, and I’d love to play there more often – this time with the full band.

FLYC: Last but not least: I read that you initially aimed to become a military pilot. Nowadays, you at least have the PPL (Private Pilot License). Is there any destination you haven’t been to and would love to fly to — and maybe even share your music there?
Cory: I’ve had the great pleasure of flying myself to a few shows over the last couple of years, and it really is the best. I’d love to do it more. Eventually, I’d love to fly myself from Canada to the U.S. to check that off my bucket list – and maybe one day fly in different countries while I’m there too.
