I already chatted with Sascha Hoss Power Vollmer about Back To The Boots in my recent Spotlight interview. Now, it is time to share the new album by The BossHoss, which will be released on 19th September 2025. It is the eleventh album of the German country-fun rockers. Here is my review.
The BossHoss – About The Artists
The BossHoss are a band from Berlin in Germany. It has been officially founded in 2004. The country-style rock band was originally a trio, consisting of Alec Boss Burns Völkl (vocals, washboard), Sacha Hoss Power Vollmer (vocals, guitar) and Michael Frick (contrabass). Frick left the band rather early, while the band expanded to a septet nowadays. As Sascha stated in our recent interview, the success of their 2005 album Internashville Urban Hymns was absolutely unexpected. The album just missed the German album charts and became a triple golden records. Since then, none of their albums placed worse then seventh in Germany.
The music of The BossHoss is a mixture of rock and pop, mixed with country music elements. Initially, the band rather focused on cover versions of popular songs in their own style. However, they more and more released originals as well. Their most successful track was Don’t Gimme That, released in 2011. The song topped the Austrian charts and was a triple golden record in their home country.

The BossHoss – Back To The Boots – Track by Track
The seventeen track album lasts 53 minutes.
1. Ride it like a Cowboy
The Germans kick off their 2025 record with already familiar tunes. Four if the five opening songs have been released as singles already. Ride it like a Cowboy is a cool, laid back track with a nice groove. There are definite country music elements in this song, even though it is overall more in the rock-pop sphere. And: it stays in your mind. That’s not too bad.
2. I’ll be Back (feat. Arnold Schwarzenegger)
However, Ride it like a Cowboy has a really tough time on Back to the Boots. I’ll Be Back is the outstanding track of the album. Not only because they could persuade US-Austrian acting legend to be part of the record. The song is simply a great, catching party track. It will drive the band’s fans on the upcoming (in fact, sold out) tour. I love it!
3. One More Time
The first so far unreleased song on the album is One More Time. The septet is boosting their guitars for this Southern-style rocker. Definitely a cool listen with a nice instrumental style.
4. On the Road again
Back To The Boots also implies that The BossHoss are doing some things they had done in their early days. One of their most successful songs has been their very own version of Dolly Parton’s Jolene. In 2025, they cover another big name of the genre, doing their very own version of Willie Nelson’s classic. Of course, this one is slightly more speedy and rocking than the original.
5. Win Win
After Win Win, all songs on the record are in fact new to the fans of the band. The guitar and basses are giving a rock boost, the brass section is adding a special flavor to the song. The song features a cool change between fast and rather slow and relaxed sections.
6. Lions Den
Lions Den is not as energetic as the predecessor, but it generally comes with the same musical elements. Intense guitars, some brass elements, Americana vibes and a cool groove. It is definitely fun listening to this one.
7. Grill em all
The sound of this track is more melodic, finer – and more traditional. That’s the way the Berlin band is thinking about the perfect soundtrack for a campfire meeting, I guess. With the harmonica and strumming guitars, the song leads to a very direct, handmade impression.
8. Back to the Boots
It’s almost half time at this album – time for the title. There are some Elvis vibes when the dark voice and the traditional country music style is presented. However, The BossHoss do it more rhythmic and more modern than the music idol. The narrative style of the song works out nicely.
9. Good so Bad
The brass instruments play a major role in this ninth song of the album. The vocals have a bit of a hip hop swag, which leads to a really cool groove. The BossHoss catch me with their Good so Bad
10. What the world needs now is love (feat. Dionne Warwick)
For the tenth song, The BossHoss go back deeply in time. The Burt Bacharach compositions has been made popular by Jackie DeShannon, who released this song in April 1965. The song was originally offered to Dionne Warwick, who declined the song due to being too country and too preachy. The more, it is a bit of irony that the US-American soul and R&B queen is joining the Germans sixty years later. Melodically, the song does not fit too easily into the context of Back To The Boots – but it is a real beauty.
11. Showdown
A song that nicely illustrates that The BossHoss is much more than a country-style cover song band is Showdown. The stanzas have very modern rap vibes, followed by a cool, groovy backing vocal set. The chorus again presents that lovely blending of rocking guitars (who are really powerful towards the end) and brass elements. Despite this very different elements, the song feels very compact and fluent.
12. Ring of Fire
Okay, you guess it. This one is not an original. And if you haven’t guessed, the trumpet flourish at the beginning of the song tells you. The song starts slow, but then increases the rock level as well as its speed. I feel with drummer Ansgar Sir Frank Doe Freyberg while listening. Definitely one of the more busy days at his rhythmic office.
13. Too much
The album presents another traditional sound, rhythmic song. The BossHoss state Too much is not enough and present a saloon smasher which is rather a bit too stereotypical. Yeah, there is a touch of country kitsch in here, but the rhythmic song is also very catching.
14. From Country to Country
In this one, The BossHoss take us From country to country, from place to place. The sound of the album starts rather traditional. However, the song has elements of Irish folk music. Somehow this feels like a slow, perfect drinking song to me.
15. German Angst
At least from a German perspective, this song really makes me smile. The band does not just tell us that the German Angst is that is what we need. Later, they also mix rock elements with typical German traditional folk music brass sounds. I really like it.
16. Burn Baby Burn
Whenever I read Burn Baby Burn, my brain can’t be stopped to think on about the Disco Inferno. However, this song is not a cover version of the song by The Trammps, but a definite original, which nicely fits into the rocking style with special musical elements of the album. Nice.
17. Lunch
The album closes with a cover of a rather recent song release. Billie Eilish released Lunch in 2024 as part of her Hit Me Hard and Soft album. The chucker-out is defintiely entertaining, even though it is not the icing on the Back To The Boots cake as well.

The BossHoss – Back To The Boots – My View
I was already looking forward to the Back To The Boots tour in a few week. The corresponding album definitely does increase this feeling. The German band is generously sharing 17 songs, 13 of which have not been released before the album. Their country-flavored rock-pop style is simply fun to listen. Furthermore, the songs do add different characters to the record, so that it is not boring at all listening to it.
