Jesse Daniel (16h July 2025, Cologne)

Back to the Freideck, two weeks later… After I had covered the Dasha show at the location in the North of Cologne at the beginning of July 2025, I headed back there for my next concert report. On 16th July 2025, Jesse Daniel had his open air appearance there. However, there were thunderstorms in the Rheinland region, so that short notice, the concert moved indoor – not even to the major local venue, but to its smaller Yard Club. The support act of the evening was Tris Munsick.

This posting comes with 204 major size pictures as part of the concert gallery.

Yard Club – About The Venue

The Yard Club is the smallest of three venue options at Die Kantine in the North of Cologne. I featured one show there in 2025 already, Caylee Hammack in May 2025. The show had some 150 to 180 spectators – even though that was just two thirds of the capacity, it felt rather full by that already. On that day, the parking situation was very relaxed, but can become challenging at major events. You reach Die Kantine and its open air space Freideck as well as its major venue conveniently by tram, though. Tam lines 12 and 15 (Wilhelm-Sollmann-Str. stop) are a five minute walk away. Alternatively, you can also use bus line 122 to Bremerhavener Str..

Jesse Daniel – About The Artists

Jesse Daniel is a California-origin country music artist. He is known for his rather traditional country music sound. He started to release songs in 2018, when also his self-titled debut album has been released. In Cologne, he presented his fifth and latest album, Son of the San Lorenzo, which has been released in June 2025.

Daniel was supported by Tris Munsick. He is active as a solo artist as well as with his band, the Innocents. He is from Dayton in Wyoming. With The Innocents, he released the 2024 album Big Medicine Moon, their third studio album overall. His only solo album is dated as of 2014, though (called Last Time I Leave). He is also doing a rather traditional sound.

Jesse Daniel – The Show

Tris Munsick opened the evening, right in time with the original open air schedule at 19:30. The song was a mixture of originals, mixed with some covers. For example, Munsick had his own Rosalita rather at the beginning of the set, while he praised Chris Ledoux for bringing cowboy country back rather at he end, before performing his Cadillac Cowboy. The Cologne audience appreciated the artist, who was on stage by his own. One of the highlights of his set was Palomino. Munsick explained that he wrote that song for the daugher of his brother. After some 45 minutes, he closed his set with Sound and Sage.

A Rocking Traditional Country Show by Jesse Daniel

Tris Munsick had already praised Jesse Daniel and his band during the support set – and the main act of the day underlined that the Wyoming artist was just right. Daniel kicked off his almost 90 minute set at 20:30 with a Waylon Jennings cover, Are You Ready for the Country. Indeed, the band defined a lovely traditional music sound. People were dancing and moving to the music very early. One of the highlight of his set was Only Money, Honey, which he performed as a duet with his band member, partner and songwriting mate Jodi Lyford. Thereafter, he presented two songs of his most recent album, Mountain Home and the title track Son of the San Lorenzo.

The second half of the set was a mixture of originals and covers. For example, he played My Time sis Gonna Come, followed by Merle Haggard’s Make-Up and Faded Blue Jeans. The atmosphere in the intimate Yard Club was great at that time already. Another highlight was Jimmie Rodgers’ T for Texas, before Soft Spot (For The Hard Stuff) and Rollin’ On closed the set. The encore was Cut Me Loose, before the artists met the fans at the end of a memorable classic country music.

Jesse Daniel – My View

The setting in the Yard Club was definitely more challenging for photography, but the evening in Cologne was great. Tris Munsick did a great warm-up at his first ever show in Germany, before Jesse Daniel was a blast. There were not too many familiar faces at the Yard Club, though. The traditional country music scene in my home country is split between different styles. We need to unite and party the genre together. This is the straight-forward – and only – way to enjoy country music parties like this evening in July 2025 in Cologne together.
