A new name from Austria: on 16th May 2025, the band Von Dannen releases their debut album Nie mehr zurück. While the album title roughly translates to “Never going back”, the band name means “From Away”. Let’s see in which direction their debut is heading.

Von Dannen – About The Artists

Von Dannen is an Austrian poprock band from Klagenfurt. According to the press kit, they have been founded in 2022. Christoph Fischer is the singer of the band and also writes most of the song. He was initially joined by Stefan Ackerer. Later, the band also integrated Peter Kleinrath (bass) and Bernhard Tegrovsky (drums). In March 2024, they released their debut single Besser als Du denkst, which is also part of the album.

Von Dannen – Nie mehr zurück – Track by Track

The seven track album lasts 21 minutes.

1. Amsterdam

The debut album opens with the stomping beat of Amsterdam. The first song already sets a certain direction. Von Dannen present a straight pop-rock track, which is leaning towards rock music. The opener is thereby presenting a three minute love story of a trip through the Dutch capital, which is coming with good storytelling and a nice plot.

2. Nie mehr zurück

The title song of the album is following as the second track. The song is having a more melancholic touch, Christoph Fischer’s vocals feel like yelling. The chorus of Nie mehr zurück also adds to that flavor of alternative and punk rock vibes. A really nice one.

3. Geh doch

Now, the Austrians state Geh doch mit wem Du willst, which you could translate to “Fuck off, with whoever you want”. It’s not too hard to guess that this one is about a breakup experience. The powerful and angry melodic style of the song nicely matches to the story told. I like it.

4. Besser als du denkst

As already stated above, Besser als du denkst (“Better than you think”) has been the debut single of the band. The song has a nice catch and also has quite some potential to drive the audience at Von Dannen concerts. You really get into this one very quickly.

5. Neustart

Quite in the middle of the album, the band is going for a “Restart”. The song is one of the ballads of the Austrian’s first release. Even though there are some energetic moments on the vocal side, the instrumental part of the song starts rather calm. You initially just have the acoustic guitar and some string sounds. However, some drumming is added to the arrangement in later parts. A nice track, which presents the very fine and emotional side of Christoph Fischer and his bandmates.

6. Zeitmaschine

The sixth track is about a “Time Machine”. Again, the song is about a relationship. However, this time is about standing together, also in worse times. Ich reich Dir die Hand, lass’ uns gleich von dannen ziehen – “I reach out to you – come on, let’s go away right now”. The song is thereby referencing the band name as well as other statements in this album. Nice track, which also has a stronger rock attitude again.

7. Schon lange längst verloren

The album closes with a dreaming and thoughtful song, Schon lange längst verloren. Von Dannen present a beautiful fade-out from their first album here.

Von Dannen – Nie mehr zurück – My View

It is just 21 minutes, just seven songs (including, at least, four new ones) – but I really like Nie mehr zurück. Von Dannen have a nice style and do very talented songwriting as well. The Austrians took their first major step into the music industry in style. Hope that many more are ahead of this interesting project.

Favorite Song: Nie mehr zurück
