For a night after a photo trip to the Harz mountains in January 2023, I had a one night stay in Hanover (Hannover). Looking for a reliable stay in close distance to the main station, I opted for the IntercityHotel Hannover Hauptbahnhof Ost, which is located Northeast of the station. There is also another place driven by the Deutsche Hospitality brand, which is located West of the train station and simply called IntercityHotel Hannover.

 

IntercityHotel Hannover Hauptbahnhof Ost – Location

The hotel is located right North of the train station. You can either cross a major road (which works out quite fine in later hours) or walk through an passenger walkway, which is typically also rather popular at drug consumers and alcoholics. That’s also the only downside of the location of the hotel, as walking to the main station is about three minutes and you need another three ones to cross it and reach the main shopping area of Hanover. The train station provides local, regional and national transit, including high speed trains to Cologne and the Ruhrgebiet, Frankfurt, Munich and the South of Germany as well as to Hamburg or Berlin.

Touristic facilities are found in and around the station as welll. There is even a major supermarket nearby, the train station and the shopping area features several malls and restaurants.

 

IntercityHotel Hannover Hauptbahnhof Ost – Room

I had a Saturday to Sunday stay in January 2023. The refundable members rate, including breakfast, was 80 EUR. The design of the room was more or less in line with the more modern room designs I for example also had at the IntercityHotel Saarbrücken. The room was sufficiently spacious and quiet. I appreciated the large working area. Generally, I like the idea of having a map behind the bed as well. As an H Rewards member, I also had a small welcome snack in the room, which I highly appreciated.

The shower bathroom was also a nice – and very clean – experience. In general I like the branding of pillows, towels and other hotel items at IntercityHotels. Thus, the bathroom gave me a smile in this case as well. Overall, the room absolutely fulfilled by expectation and gave me a nice time in Hanover.

 

IntercityHotel Hannover Hauptbahnhof Ost – Breakfast

I feel I did not have a disappointing experience about breakfast at an IntercityHotel yet – and so was this one. The hotel is offering a nice, down to Earth, but nice selection of items for the start of the day. They are especially doing good in cheese, cold cuts and similar items. A nice feature of the hotel is that the signs explaining the ingredients are German and English.

 

IntercityHotel Hannover Hauptbahnhof Ost – Service

The staff in the hotel was really great, I liked the welcoming at check in and their service in general. WiFi worked very well, too (I receive better connection due to my status at the brand). I also liked that you could claim maintenance issues by putting out a small tag at your room – very handy way to do it. As all IntercityHotels do, the Hanover place offers a free public transport ticket for the duration of your stay. As I just headed on to Cologne the next morning, I did not make use of that offer.

 

IntercityHotel Hannover Hauptbahnhof Ost – My View

Due to its location and typically very reasonable price, the IntercityHotel Hannover Hauptbahnhof Ost is a good choice if you are on an overnight transfer like me – or if you just want to explore the city. You can reach all Hanover spots as well as regional attractions like Braunschweig, Hannover or the Harz easily as well. The service is good, including the breakfast. The direct access through the pathway might be a bit of spooky, but now overwhelmingly dangerous.
