Flyctory.com Pros

  • Surprisingly large
  • Nice atmosphere
  • Good selection of snacks and drinks

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Slightly warm in summer

Visiting a friend’s musical performance in late June 2025 did not only give me my very first flights to and from Southampton Airport (SOU). The airport is even driving a lounge, named The Spitfire Lounge. Of course, a visit there felt too tempting. Here is my review.

Spitfire Lounge Southampton (SOU) – Location & Access

Southampton Airport (SOU) and its airside facilities are rather small. The lounge is located on the rear of the upper level of that part of the airport, behind restaurants and cafes. The way there might not feel overwhelmingly inviting. The signs to the lounge are good, you can get to upper level by stairs as well as using an elevator.

Opening times of the lounge feel to vary with the daily flight schedule. During my visit in June 2025, for example, the lounge operated from 6:00 to 20:00 on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, while the other days it was 6:00 to 10:00 and 15:00 to 19:00.  The only airline collaborating with the lounge directly is Air France / KLM. This also includes lounge-eligable Skyteam status members, e.g. from Delta. The Spitfire Lounge also accepts lounge passes. Alternatively, you can buy in for 32 GBP.

Spitfire Lounge Southampton (SOU) – Atmosphere

The regarding the size of the airport, the Spitfire Lounge feels surprisingly large. The style was overall very cozy, more like a large living room. It consists of two rooms, the front one featuring the buffet and the reception. There are windows towards the runway, but as they are diagonal and there is quite some flat roof in front of the lounge, the view is limited. Vice versa, the lounge felt a bit of warm to me. However, there are different seating options, including a workspace area and table seats. For dining, the tables felt rather low to me, though.

Spitfire Lounge Southampton (SOU) – Food & Drink

The Southampton Lounge has a small, but overall rather nice buffet. During my visit on a Sunday afternoon, two warm curries and rice were served alongside cold items. You can help yourself with drinks from the fridges or the coffee machine. There was a surprisingly large selection of spirits and alcoholic drinks.

Spitfire Lounge Southampton (SOU) – Services

The staff in the lounge was very friendly. Free WiFi is provided by the airport. You can also purchase a double speed option (10 Mbps), if necessary. There are no toilets in the lounge. The public bathrooms are right outside the lounge entrance.

Spitfire Lounge Southampton (SOU) – My View

You would not expect too much of a lounge in a regional airport like Southampton (SOU) – but the Spitfire Lounge is really beating that expectation. It feels very comfortable and cozy, the staff was nice. The lounge was a bit warm during summer, but I really liked my stay there.
