Vikingur – KI Klaksvik (Women) 0-2 (0-0)

After I could not make it to their men’s match (schedule change due to weather), I was really glad that my October trip to the Faroe Islands at least featured the women’s team of my favorites, KI Klaksvik. On the evening of 5th Octobe 2025, they faced Vikingur at Nordragota abroad. An important match in the Women Betrdeildin Premier League’s Championship round to keep the better position against NSI on the final match day. Here is my match report.

Vikingur – KI Klaksvik – Match Report

Arriving from the men’s handball match in Vestmanna, I arrived at the ground just a few minutes before kick-off. The hosts had the better start and created pressure on the KI goal. The guests had their first opportunity by a header in the 17th minute. The match was very levelled, Vikingur even had more remarkable shots, even though those were majorly from a wider distance. Overall, both teams did very well in their defensive strategies, so that the score ran into a 0-0 at half time.

 

Goals and Dramatic Scenes in the Second Half

KI was much more active at the beginning of the second half than they showed before the intermission. Their first really dangerous opportunity was a free kick, which was impacted by the heavy wind so badly that Vikingur’s goalie Johanna Gaard was quite a lot in trouble with it. The match also became more emotional and energetic now. The match more and more ran towards her goal – and KI finally converted that momentum in the 68th minute. Just minutes after a Vikingur had a really nice attack, Torunn Hojgaard Joensen gave a right wing ball the right touch to create too much struggle in the hosts’ defense. Three minutes later, after a right attack side corner kick, KI scored again. The goal was almost a copy of their first one – even the scorer was the same.

Soon thereafter, Gaard was in focus gain. A failed pass back to the Vikingur goalie lead to a big chance for the guests, but Gaard showed her best safe of the match. In the 82th minute, Vikingur had a left wing attack, one of their players fell in the penalty area. The penalty shot whistle did not feel too obvious, the discussions thereafter (including a yellow card) felt even more unnecessary. Vikingur had the chance for a thilling final part of the match, but two minutes later, after all things have been sorted out, Mona Rasmusdottir failed against Oluva Allansdottir Joensen from the spot, so that KI was still in the lead by 2-0. There was not too much more pressure by the hosts thereafter, so that the score stayed until the final whistle.

 

Vikingur – KI Klaksvik – My View of the Match

Vikingur showed that the favorite guests were vulnerable in defense. However, they did not manage to convert their opportunities, including the must-do penalty shot. Thus, they finally could not reward themselves for a very disciplined and energetic performance at their own Sarpugerdi stadium. Klaksvik moves to the last match of the season with a three point and 13 goal difference advantage over NSI. Thus, the Runavik teams would need an hard-to-imagine seven goal advantage victory in the direct battle between the dominating teams.
