Pixbo IBK – Warberg IC 4-3 (2-0, 1-1, 1-2)

The third and last match of my January 2026 floorball trip to Sweden was somehow the highlight. Pixbo IBK facing Warberg IC by itself is in interesting regional battle by itself. However, being the show match of the Gothia Innebandy Cup, this floorball battle took place at the Scandinavium in front of 9,212 spectators – you could expect some enthusiastic (majorly young) spectators on that evening. Unfortunately, German Pixbo player Jakob Heins had to stay at home – he came back ill from a vacation in his home country. Thus, the only German at the court was his father Sven, who is Pixbo’s team leader.

This posting comes with a section of 665 major size pictures in the sports galleries

Gothia Innebandy Cup – Opening Ceremony

The teams warmed up at an alternate court, while the Scandinavium saw a posh opening show for the junior floorball tournament. Lots of dancers and singers, the flags of the participating countries (no Finland, by the way…) and even an athletes oath that the players will do fair play. This pre-show had some spirit of an Olympic Opening Ceremony (and felt much more intense than WFC opening or final match shows we saw in Sweden so far).

The pictures of the ceremony are at the end of the gallery.

Pixbo – Warberg – Match Report

The first highlight of a match was already in the first minute. A battle between a player of each team made both fall over the rink, right into the cardboard tower which held the spare balls… This important marketing item was destroyed for the rest of the match. Surprisingly, the match clock went down and not up in the arena. In the seventh minute, Warberg felt to have the first chance of the match. Arwid Hedlund was sent to the bench for holding. The wrestling-hold battle was a bit too much for the referees in a physical game. However, the nominal guest could not profit from that man advantage.

The match stayed very active. Especially Jon Hedlund in the Pixbo net had some really good save in that part of the match. However, in the 16th minute, Pixbo initiated scoring in Scandinavium. Arvid Äse scored after a left wing attack. While the event felt being perfectly organized, there were no replays on the video cube, so that I could not spot the details correctly. Less than two minutes later, the Czech youth teams sitting in one round of the arena cheered Jakub Faksa’s name. The Czech player was simply positioned perfectly to take the rebound after Wictor Lundstedt’s attempt. Thus, Pixbo lead by two goals after twenty minutes. Definitely not an unlucky score for the Gothenburg team, but also not undeserved.

A Close Battle in the Second Period

The match stayed close, dynamic and physical in the second period. And it felt like Pixbo was the luckier team as well. In the 28th minute, Victor Johansson converted a fast beak, leading to a three goal lead. However, 90 seconds later, Albin Strand gave hope to the large block of Warberg IC fans. His volley shot after a pass by Filip Erheden was an absolute beauty. In the 33rd minute, Morics Krumins got a bench penalty. However, the box play was strong on both sides on this Saturday evening. The match got a bit more emotional, but not more effective in scoring. Thus, Pixbo kept the two goal lead until the players went back into the locker rooms.

Too late Hopes for Warberg

You felt a stronger intensity in the third period. The referees had to interrupt the match more often now. However, there was no scoring, so that the match clock ticked down in favor of the home team. This felt to change when Anton Birgersson scored in the 53rd minute after a left wing attack. However, Pixbo found a quick answer. Just twenty seconds later, the ball was in Olle Jonsson’s net again. Linus Nestersson scored in a fast break.

Pixbo felt to manage the match well now, so that Olle Jonsson left his net with four minutes left on the clock. Both teams struggled in the final minutes. Warberg was good in passing and keeping the ball, but Pixbo’s defense gave too many blocks. On the other hand, the Red Foxes did not have any major opportunity to decide by an empty netter. After having an assists on that day already, Erheden did manage to score finally. However, when Warberg made their third goal, there were just 2.8 seconds left to play. Thus, Pixbo won that interesting West Coast battle by 4-3.

Pixbo – Warberg – My View of the Match

The match was a thrilling defensive, physical battle, in which finally both goalies were awarded as best players. Especially in the context of the Gothia Innebandy Cup, I felt it was cool to see for the floorball stars of tomorrow, how this game is really played. Especially in countries like Germany, even top league matches are far away from the athletic level and the level of umpiring. Thus, I hope that a couple thousand of kids, their coaches and their parents have been inspired by Pixbo IBK and Warberg IC.
