I am typically rather shy in reviewing bed and breakfasts, guesthouses and other kind of private accommodation. In some places, they are thte more and more popular – and affordable – option through. During my September 2024 in Torshavn, I tried to stay in the Faroese capital in a lighter way. Here is my review of Nordic Inn, a guesthouse in the North of the city.

Nordic Inn – Location

The guesthouse is located in the North of Central Torshavn. It is close to The Nordic House and in walking distance to the Torsvollur National Soccer Stadium. The house is located in a residential district in a section of the Aargeil road. It is a duplex house, which is next to the Northern Ring Road, but very quietly located. There are a couple of businesses in the area, but restaurants or grocery stores are more distant.

You can reach the Nordic Inn by the Torshavn city buses. Two stops are in short walking distance. Aargeil is connected by line 4, while Nordurlandahusid (“The Nordic House”) is served by line 6. If you have a (rental) car, you can park in the backyard of the building.

Nordic Inn – Room

I had a two night stay in September 2024, Friday to Sunday. Booked through a booking platform, you pre-paid the guesthouse some two weeks before the stay. The total rate, including taxes and cleaning, was 1558 DKK, roughly 209 EUR. My room was in the basement of the guesthouse. According to Nordic habits, you have to take the shoes off in the entrance area to the house. Going down the staircase with socks and a major suitcase was a bit of bothering, though. The room was actually quite nice. I really liked the cozy atmosphere in it. Finally, it had all I needed for a stay. Obviously, there was no food like breakfast provided.

Nordic Inn – Common Space

The room shared the bathroom with another room on the same floor. You are asked to stay on the floor in regard of that, but you may also use bathrooms on other floors. The bathroom was cleaned once a day. Apart from that, I was lucky with my room neighbor, who was a very relaxed guy. Nonetheless, not even having a sink on my own was difficult for me. Nordic Inn provides towels, linen and similar amenities. This felt very comfortable to my point of view. There was a basic kitchen, fridge and washing machine close to my room. The noise of the latter was undeniably bothering. The ground floor of the building featured a larger and more comfortable kitchen.

Nordic Inn – Service

Checking in and checking out worked rather contactless. The room key were provided in a key safe, you had contact by e-mail including the code and how this will be handled. Apart from that I just saw one of the co-hosts briefly while cleaning a room. The hosts are available via phone and e-mail though. For check-out, you simply left the key in the room or put it into the key safe.

Nordic Inn – My View

Places like the Nordic Inn are a much more budget-friendly way to explore the Faroe Islands. I did somehow enjoy the simplistic travel. On the other hand, I just cannot state that I liked things like bringing the suitcase down a narrow staircase. Nonetheless, I felt that the Nordic in is a nice choice when staying in or around Torshavn.
