Flyctory.com Pros

  • German and English language songs
  • Good melodies
  • Six previously unreleased tracks

Rather early before the release date of 5th July 2024, I ran into the EP Neue Wege by German artist Jonas Green. Not only as the release contains German and English language songs, I felt that this is a very interesting one. Here is my review.

Jonas Green – About The Artist

Jonas Green is the artist name of Björn Theilen. He is based in Rastede, a town not too far away from Bremen in Northern Germany. He is touring together with saxophone player Henning Haselau as Jonas Green Duo. The EP Neue Wege is his debut EP release. He did release two singles before, though. Namely, these are Love is everywhere (2023) and Please tell me who I am (2021).

Jonas Green – Neue Wege – Track by Track

The seven track EP lasts 25 minutes.

1. Someday

The EP consists of two English and five German language songs. The English ones open the release. Thereby, Someday is already one of the best tracks of Neue Wege (which translates to “New Ways”). A nice poprock track with a very melodic heart. Especially the chorus stays in your mind.

2. Change

Change is following a similar character. A song between pop and rock with a nice, easy to grasp melody. The second track is a bit slower, though. I prefer Someday, but this one is definitely a good song as well.

3. So geht Leben

The third song opens the German language songs. The title of the track roughly translates to “That’s how life is working”. I personally feel that the German vocal performance feel a bit more emotional, which also leads to a soppy touch. However, the guitar work in here is nice, the song has a nice groove.

4. Im Traum

According to the title, the song takes you “into a dream”. And indeed, the song is presenting different wishes and dreams of the artist. The song works out very well. Especially the scattered saxophone melodies lead to an entertaining and snappy listen.

5. Der Weg zurück

The fifth song is very emotional and thus even has a slight schlager touch. However, I do like the vocal performance in here. Again, Jonas Green adds the saxophone to this piano-driven track.

Das ist der Weg
Der Weg zurück zu Dir
Das ist der Weg
Der Weg zurück zu mir
Zurück zu uns

(“This is the way
The way back to you
This is the way
The way back to me,
back to us”)

6. Nicht perfekt

The more rhythmic Nicht perfekt (“Not perfect”) defines a really nice German pop track. The chorus is a good, catching sing-a-long part as well.

7. Halt mich jetzt

Neue Wege closes with Halt mich jetzt (“Hold me now”). The song starts with the piano and some saxophone tunes. The song strongly feels like a ballad at the beginning, but also has some rather energetic moments. Nonetheless, the song is definitely the emotional highlight of the five German songs.

Jonas Green – Neue Wege – My View

Jonas Green presents seven interesting tracks. I do favor the first two ones, but the more you listen to the German songs, the more you enjoy them. The vocal and musical highlight is the closing song. I wouldn’t call it a top notch release, but I really enjoyed it – and appreciate that there are six so far unreleased songs on the EP as well.

Favorite Song: Halt mich jetzt
