The Washboard Union (4th November 2026, Cologne)

The future of the Sound of Nashville concert series might be uncertain. The more, it is worth visiting one of the confirmed shows. On 4th November  2026, they presented a show of The Washboard Union’s European tour. The band played in Cologne, Germany, at the Helios37. There was no support act.

This posting comes with 167 major size pictures as part of the concert gallery.

Helios37 – About The Venue

Helios37 is a complex of several venues in Cologne Ehrenfeld, which can hold up to 1,000 people. However, for concerts like this one, it comes with a capacity of roughly 250. While I have been at the venue in the past multiple times, my last coverage from there was an Everette and Austin Jenckes show in May 2023. It is quite conveniently located. Cologne Ehrenfeld regional rail station is just minutes away, the closest tram/underground stop is Venloer Str./Gürtel, served by tram lines, 3, 4 and 13, as well as some bus services.

The Washboard Union – About The Artists

The Washboard Union is a Canadian country music band, founded in 2010 in Vancouver. In 2020, I reviewed their album Everbound. It has been their third album, after The Washboard Union (2012) and What We’re Made Of (2018). In 2024, they released the album Westerly. Four of their songs made it to the Canadian country charts, the last one being Dock Rock in 2020.

The Washboard Union – The Show

The evening was scheduled to kick off at 19:00 – likely, including a support act. However, as there was no other band on state, the Canadians started their set briefly after 19:30. With Maybe It’s The Moonshine and What We’re Made Of, the set started with rather earlier tracks of their songbook. Already at that song, Cologne interacted with the sextet on stage, waving their hands from left to right. The close connection between the band, who had their debut show in Germany just the day before (in Munich), and the fans stayed close. For example, during the summerly vibes of Band on Her T-Shirt, even the rear row visitors of the show could not prevent dancing.

The show went fluent and rather fast, while the band still shared some anecdotes and stories. Soon, they stated Cologne is where it all happens – and the Rheinland people gave it back during songs like Whiskey Wings or Neon Needs the Night. Very personal tracks like Feel Like That praising small town life pushed the German fans even more. The 80 minute set closed with Don Henley’s Boys of Summer and Shot of Glory.

The Washboard Union – My View

The show left me with a sad smile. A week before, Warren Zeiders almost sold out the 2,000 people E-Werk. On that Wednesday, may 120 people made it to the Helios 37. They definitely saw the better concert performance. The Washboard Union were close to the fans – not only the ones who traveled in from Canada. You felt how much they enjoyed performing in this intimate setting. They did an honest, straight show which had few opportunities to calm down. You could feel (and hear) how thankful they were being able to tour Germany for their first time.

I hope that they will come back soon. On this evening, The Washboard Union indicated that they can catch the crowds even on significantly larger stages. I loved it.
