NSI Runavik – B36 Torshavn 2-1 (0-1)

Soccer at the Faroe Islands is special. First of all, all teams play on artificial turf, there is summer season (like in all Nordic countries…), i.e. the season lasts from spring to fall, and there is the weather. Having a week on the autonomous territory at the beginning of October 2025 started with a lot of replanning of matches on the first weekend. Especially the soccer calendar had been impacted massively by heavy winds, which finally even forced Faroe Islands Airport (FAE) and some inter-island connections to close operations.

The first match of my schedule stayed in the plan as expected. NSI from Runavik hosted B36, one of the capital Torshavn teams. I had taken you to one of their home matches in the past as a spectator. NSI had theoretical chances to become Faroese champion. However, league leader KI Klaksvik had to suffer in all of their upcoming matches. Unfortunately, their match in parallel was one of the impacted ones – I was dreaming of reporting from my favorite team on this trip as well.

NSI Runavik – B36 Torshavn – Match Report

Both teams started rather defensively. B36 had the first two corner kicks of the match, NSI’s first opportunity was a left wing attack in the 18th minute. Thereafter, both teams became a bit more active, which also resulted in some opportunities. The guest took the lead in the 26th minute by Paetur Joensson Petersen, who was quicker than the NSI defenders after a precise ball into the box from outside. One of the characteristics of the match was that towards the ends of the periods, there were a bit more emotions. Finally, B36 kept the lead until the intermission. They could have even lead higher as a few minutes before the final whistle, NSI’s goalkeeper Kristian Joensen could deflect a central shot from the distance just to the woodwork. By the way, there was just one minute of injury time in the first period – amazing that this is still possible nowadays.

NSI Comeback in the Second Half

NSI had the momentum at the beginning of the second period. However, they still struggled to create good opportunities. Finally, it was Michal Danian Przybylski who made the NSI supporters cheer louder again. He was the quickest to act after his teammate brought the ball into the danger zone from the right wing. However, B36 did not feel being too impressed. Jogvan Karason Gullfoss had a good scoring opportunity just a few minutes thereafter.

Thereafter, the teams felt to neutralize the opponent’s attacks well again. The match was already in its final ten minutes when NSI’s captain Klaemint Andrasson Olsen struggled that he could not convert a good chance from a central position in the penalty area. In the following minutes, it rather felt like B36 could get the victory in Runavik. Nonetheless, this match felt like it wanted to share the points when the fourth official announced the additional time of four minutes. However, finally NSI’s Petur Knudsen made the home crowd party at Vid Lokin Stadium that evening. The second NSI goal, already in that additional time, felt like a copy of their first one. Some more emotions and even a small mass confrontation later, the match was over.

NSI Runavik – B36 Torshavn – My View of the Match

This Friday evening match turned out to be a thriller, in which Jens Wedeborg’s team took three crucial points in the championship. With KI sealing the trophy for the league winner in parallel, NSI now has to focus on their next match at HB, where they likely need a win to secure the second spot in the league table against third-placed HB. B36 showed a brave fight, but were finally a bit too vulnerable in a few situations in this close match in Runavik.
