After my 2025 Women World Floorball Championship Qualification coverage in Lignano Sabbiadoro in Italy, I needed a hotel night close to Venice Airport (VCE). As I prefer Hilton Hotels, I went for a one night stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Venice Mestre San Giulano. Here is the review of my stay.

HGI Venice Mestre San Giuliano – Location

Mestre is the key mainland borough of Venice. The hotel is located in the East of the city, i.e. comparably close to Venice Airport (VCE). The area is rather commercial, there are some gas stations and a few other services around, which may be relevant for travelers. However, for most restaurants and supermarkets can only be reached by car.

The hotel is rather a car place. Parking in the hotel garage is charged 10 EUR. There is, however, a bus stop in front of the hotel. Orlanda Appia is connecting to the city center of Mestre (line 15) and to central Venice (line 19). Both lines connect to the airport in the opposite direction. If you go to the airport by (rental) car, don’t follow the signs but trust your GPS. The signs put you on a huge detour.

HGI Venice Mestre San Giuliano – Room

I booked a King Room in the Hilton Garden Inn Venice Mestre. The one night stay, Saturday to Sunday in early February 2025, with a five day cancellation period was 132.02 EUR, including city tax. I at least got an upgrade to a room with a balcony overlooking the swimming pool. Breakfast was included as I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member. The room felt surprisingly small. It is given with a size of 25 square meters. The hallway felt rather large, but there was hardly any space for a suitcase – I even had my one on the bed to prepare it for the flights. On the positive side, the work desk was really large and there were sufficient power outlets. Please note that some of them follow the traditional Italian layout, i.e. three pins in a row.

The shower bathroom came with a toilet and a bidet. The amenities were provided in dispensers. However, the room had some maintenance issues. The body lotion dispenser was empty, there was some sort of blue plastic bag from a previous guest in the room and the door to the balcony felt already not in its best state any more. The balcony is definitely a nice feature in summer days, I feel, though. Another issue is that the standard temperature of the heating (in winter) was 28 degrees and you could only turn it down by at most 3 degrees, i.e. to 25 C. You could ring the reception to change that remotely. However, the Guest Service button on the phone did not work and I had to call them by their direct number (9), which was very unhandy.

HGI Venice Mestre San Giuliano – Breakfast & Food

The breakfast room on reception level was really nice. It also serves as a restaurant. The breakfast was fine with a nice selection of warm and sweet dishes. Overall, it felt a bit of basic, but I did enjoy it.

Due to the lack of restaurants in the area, I went or the room service. The Tagliatelle Bolognese and the tiramisu below was 22.40 EUR in total (incl. service) and was really nice. The delivery was extremely quick (some 15 minutes) and the staff was really friendly.

HGI Venice Mestre San Giuliano – Service

The welcoming and check-out was fine, the staff had a reasonable level of English. I really liked the quality and stability of the WiFi provided. The hotel comes with some nice sports facilities. Despite being close to a major road, the outdoor pool looked really nice. The gym was a bit of basic compared to that, but definitely also got its job done.

Close to the entrance to the parking garage on the rear of the hotel, there is also a spa. The reception told me that it was closed during my stay, despite there was light in the building. There are no slippers or bathrobes.

HGI Venice Mestre San Giuliano – My View

I was a bit of disappointed about the hotel. The breakfast could be better, the housekeeping and maintenance came with issues. On the positive side, the hotel has a nice location and the pool is really nice. I also liked the large work desk. However, the room itself just felt too small, also due to all the furniture in there.
