Brigitte Calls Me Baby could be a name of a German band. However, this alternative rock act is coming from the opposite side of the Atlantic Ocean. With The Future Is Our Way Out, the US-Americans release their debut album on 2nd August 2024. I liked their sound when I ran across it on a promotion platform and felt to dig deeper. Here are my thoughts.

Brigitte Calls Me Baby – About The Artists

Brigitte Calls Me Baby is lead by frontman and songwriter Wes Leavins. After he moved from Texas to Chicago, he founded the band, alongside drummer Jeremy Benshish, bassist Wessels as well as Trevor Lynch and Jack Fluegel on the guitars. In February 2024, the band released the EP This House is Made of Corners, which is also the backbone of The Future Is Our Way Out. All songs of the EP can also be found on this long-play.

Brigitte Calls Me Baby – The Future Is Our Way Out – Track by Track

The eleven song album lasts 38 minutes.

1. The Future Is Our Way Out

The album opens with its title track. The Future Is Our Way Out has already been part of the band’s EP release earlier this year. The song feels hymnic, majestic. A very present and fluent listen with groovy instrumental sections.

2. Pink Palace

This song has been released just days before the album and already has 40k streams on Spotify at the time of writing. Quite impressing for a debut release. Leavins’ voice is having some falsetto parts, but overall, the song is striking with its lovely flow. The vibes of a song have a touch of surf pop – a perfect fit for the warm summer months.

3. Eddie My Love

The nice flow with surf and beach vibes continue with Eddie My Love. However, the sound of the third song is also very nostalgic. The band profits from its wide range of sounds which merge into their musical signature. You listen to this track and it stays in your mind – that’s one of the best things which can happen to you if you write music.

4. Fine Dining

Fine Dining opens a block of three in fact previously unreleased songs. Jeremy Benshish drives this song with a quick, catching rhythm. The chorus is then having this magical, fluent touch again, which leads to a nice combination of the feeling of harmony and the urge to move to vibes of the song.

5. I Wanna Die In The Suburbs

I Wanna Die In The Suburbs might not be the most uplifting message, but the song is a nice, typical guitar-pop track. The sonorous lead vocals again turn the song into a special listen. The guitar-driven bridge is another nice element.

6. Too Easy

With Too Easy, Brigitte Calls Me Baby present a slower and also quite melancholic song. The slightly whiny touch in Leavin’s voice works out perfectly, though. The band working as backing vocalists are another key part of this song. You simply enjoy listening to The Future Is Our Way Out – and cannot deny a certain touch of fascination.

7. Palm Of your Hand

I did not speak about the lyrics of the songs too much so far. Catch me if you can, I wanna know the feeling in the palm of your hand is not too bad, ain’t it? As this excerpt suggests, they are not too bad. The song is a rather emotional listen and strikes with a nice pre-chorus working towards the heart of the track. One of the best songs of the album to me.

8. Impressively Average

If you look at Spotify stats, Impressively Average has been the most successful song of the album campaign. The song has a good speed. The rhythm is very rock’n’roll-alike, even though the melody is rather having the hymnic touch.

9. We Were Never Alive

We werе never alive
Howеver real it seemed, it was just a dream
We don’t go and we never arrived
However real it seemed, it was just a dream
Until the end, it’s you and me
I look to you as long as I have eyes that see
And it’s the end for you and me
I wanna stay forever in the in-between

The ninth song is a rather characteristic listen for this album. Pop-rock driven by the guitars. The energetic vocal part is again the most striking part. Really nice listen.

10. You Are Only Made Of Dreams

The tenth song comes with a nice groove and strongly reminds of the summer-surf-pop sound of some of the first tracks of the album. However, the electronic guitar parts on top of the strumming rhythm guitars are really nice.

11. Always Be Fine

The album closes with a gentle, traditionally-sounding ballad. Always Be Fine is adding a very different touch at the of The Future Is Our Way Out – it also feels like a time travel back for some decades. A nice flavor to the album.

Brigitte Calls Me Baby – The Future Is Our Way Out – My View

The Future Is Our Way Out is fast, versatile and entertaining. Unfortunately, it also comes with too many already published songs and some similarities as well. Nonetheless, you can definitely have a lot of fun listening to Brigitte Calls Me Baby and their debut album. Thus, I overall really like it.
