Luxembourg is a relatively small European country. However, especially in aviation, they do have quite some good stories to tell. Luxembourg Airport (LUX) is an important hub, especially for cargo flights, for example. Thus, I was really happy when I was able to visit the Luxembourg Aviation Museum (Musée de l’Aviation Luxembourgeoise in French, Letzebuerger Fligermusee in Luxembourgian). Here is my review.

Luxembourg Aviation Museum – Location & Admission
The Luxembourg Aviation Museum is located in the spa gardens of Mondorf-Les-Bains. There are several facilities of the thermal spa around as well as restaurants and other places. Unfortunately, due to mixed weather, I could not enjoy the lovely park, in which the museum is based. Mondorf-les-Bains is very close to France. In fact, you just need two or three minutes from the museum to cross border. For parking, the parking garages of the spa are the easiest option, but require some walking. There are also multiple bus lines bringing you close to the museum. Public transport is free in entire Luxembourg. Behind the museum, there is also a movie theater.
The museum opens from Wednesday to Sunday, i.e. Mondays and Tuesdays are closed. Opening times are limited, 14:00 to 18:00. Admission to the museum is free.

Luxembourg Aviation Museum – The Visit
The museum is a rather compact two level building. All documentation is in French, you can download an English or German guide, though. As the museum is quite packed, you likely need some 45 minutes for the visit. The lower level especially focuses on the history of Luxembourgian aviation players. For example, you learn about Luxair and Cargolux, but also about the history of Luxembourg Airport (LUX). There are quite a lot of pictures, original items, information and even a few documentary movies, which lead to a very informative visit. Interestingly, an exhibit about the restauration of an airplane is in German.

The upper part of the museum, which almost entirely comes with windows, comes with a couple of planes and plane models. There are also some additional plane parts and displays. This part of the museum shall also illustrate different kinds of aviation, so that there are exhibits about ballooning or gliding in there.

Luxembourg Aviation Museum – Services
There is staff in the museum. However, I did not see them in present. This is a bit of disappointing, as there is a flight simulator corner as well as a small gift shop, which might be interesting. The museum itself does not feature a toilet, but there is a public one right outside the building.

Luxembourg Aviation Museum – My View
The Luxembourg Aviation Museum is rather small, but it does have some interesting items. It’s a bit of unfortunate that the parking situation around is very much focusing on the needs of spa visitors and clients. Additionally, some more presence of staff would have helped during my visit. However, these are minor points. The museum might not demand for a major detour if you are around, but you have a nice and interesting time there.
