  • Good location

Flyctory.com Cons

  • Too many maintenance issues
  • Lack of discipline at pinball usage

Before I visited Rytiri Kladno in the Czech ice hockey Ekstraliga, I visited another interesting attraction in the Prague outskirts. Game World is one of four video gaming museums and arcades of a franchise. They are also named Muzeum Her (“Museum of Games”) or Cibien’s Corner, named after the founder. Game World is the one most closely located to Prague Airport (PRG), so that I went for this option. Here is my review.

Game World Prague – Location & Admission

Game World Prague is based in the shopping mall OC Sestka, which is right South of the grounds of South of Prague Airport (PRG). The gaming museum and arcade is located on the ground floor, but also features a second, gallery-alike floor. There is a bus connection to the mall, but the easiest option to get there is by rental car or taxi. It is right next to the motorway 7, which is heading to Chomutov in the North and is like a ring road in the Southwest of the Czech capital.

Game World Prague is open Fridays to Sundays. On Fridays, opening times are 13:00 to 19:00. On the weekend, times are 10:00 to 19:00. The admission depends on the duration of your stay. A one hour stay is 390 CZK (roughly 15 EUR), two hours are 490 CZK and a whole day ticket is 590 CZK. There is also a family ticket for two adults and two children.

Game World Prague – The Visit

Game World Prague is a mixture of an arcade and a museum. Also the arcade games majorly had a retro touch (the golden era over arcades is over, likely). There are classics like Moto GP, Sega Rally or a couple of pinball machines. The lower level of the museum is focusing on these kind of machines, the upper level is presenting video gaming systems. Some of the exhibits also come with additional documentation in Czech only. I visited briefly after the Christmas holiday season, when the place was very popular. During my visit, it has not been that packed, there there were quite a lot of machines which had been turned off for maintenance issues. Another thing which annoyed me that too many visitors, not only kids, started pinball matches without completing the match. Other places do better by explicitly stating to users that this is not desired. The lower level also includes a Duke Nukem area as well as a display of handheld video game system. I was a bit of sad that the PC-Engine has been missing in the entire museum. To me, definitely a key icon of gaming systems.

The upper level of the arcade and museum is rather like a gallery with roughly the half size of the lower level. Apart from additional arcade machines, there is a nice focus on video gaming systems and PC gaming. The selection is overall nice with some gems. I was quite surprised that there has been an MB Vectrex ready to play, as the controllers are difficult to maintain and replace. Even though I spent more time on the lower level, I had a lot of fun on this upper level as well, which also came with an interesting museum-alike atmosphere.

Game World Prague – Services

The staff at Game World Prague was very friendly. They spoke very good English. There is a small refreshment service and a place to hang out. This may be rather helpful if you have a longer visit. Having a wristband also allows you to use the facilities of the mall during your visit, .e.g the food court or the toilets. There is also a wardrobe and lockers, which are very helpful for your visit.

Game World Prague – My View

Game World Prague is a nice place, which is good to have some fun with. The location close to the airport is nice, the staff is very friendly. I also liked the range of different types of games. Regardless of the seasonal peak time, I felt that there were too many maintenance issues. The place should also be stricter and enforce that people leave a machine in a state that the next person or party can fully enjoy it.
