It’s been quite a while since my last trip to Tuscany and Florence. The more I was looking forward to my weekend trip there in December 2025. Also in order to keep my GHA Discovery status, I opted for the Hotel Continentale in the heart of the city. The hotel is part of the Lungarno Collection Hotel Group. Here is my review.

Hotel Continentale – Location & Access

The hotel is located in the heart of the historic Old Town of Florence. From the hotel at the rather quiet street Vicolo dell’Oro, it is just a few steps to the famous Ponte Vecchio. On the opposite side of the street, there is the Gallery Hotel Art, which is a sister hotel of the Continentale. The local is ideal for sightseeing – some other key locations like the Uffizi Galleries are in short walking distance.

In regards of transport, though, the hotel does also have some weak spots. There is cobblestone road around, the walking distance from the airport tram at the main station is some one kilometer. You can access the hotel by taxi, though. There are public bus connections on the opposite side of Ponte Vecchio (Frescobaldi stop, lines 11, C3, C4), though.

Hotel Continentale – The Room

I had two nights December 2025, Friday to Sunday. The two day flexible rate for a single room was 449.60 EUR. I have been upgraded to a significantly better room due to my GHA Discovery Titanium status, which also granted me free breakfast. The core element of the room was the large canopy bed. A very unusual part was the desk, which looked like a shipment box with the chair underneath. I have to say, though, that the chair did not feel too resilient against weight, though. This section also featured the fridge. The room had a decent size. Due to the separate dressing room area, it did have a decent size, despite feeling a bit of narrow overall. On the negative side, the room definitely had a lack of power outlets, especially around the work desk.

In contrast to main room, the bathroom with shower and separate toilet came with a really large size. This also included the shower. The toilet room had a bidet as well. A really nice touch of luxury were the Ferragamo amenities provided – the hotels are actually owned by the brand. The room was well-maintained and spotlessly clean.

Hotel Continentale – Breakfast

Breakfast is served at the Gallery Hotel Art. This is a bit of bothering during colder temperatures or raining weather, but you indeed just have to cross the street. The breakfast provided there has very high quality. However, there are no warm breakfast items, which felt a bit too limited. The breakfast area also felt a bit too limited in size. Hot drinks were made to order, which also lead to some delays here and there. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed the start of the day at Hotel Continentale’s sister hotel.

Hotel Continentale – The Terrace

Despite the roof top bar is not operating in winter months, the terrace on the top floor of the hotel is amazing. You have great views of River Arno and the Ponte Vecchio. Despite the hectic and stress in Old Town, this place feels like a calm and relaxing spot.

Hotel Continentale – Services

The staff at the Hotel Continentale is very friendly and helpful. WiFi worked very well. There is no facility like a gym in the hotel. Unfortunately, the electronics of the room doors do not allow you to put up a Do not disturb while you are not in the room (it resets whenever the door opens).

Hotel Continentale – My View

Apart from getting there and away from there with luggage, the location of Hotel Continentale is amazing. The staff is lovely, but the nicely designed hotel and the stunning terrace are the heart of the place. Breakfast in the sister hotel is a bit of bothering and the room functionalities and layout do lead to issues, which prevents an even better rating.
