Flyctory.com Pros

  • Very intense and deep songs
  • Great storytelling
  • Strong atmosphere

In 1988 Tanita Tikaram stormed into the world of music with Good Tradition and Twist in My Sobriety, she had two songs, which gave her attention all around the world. The corresponding album has been Ancient Heart. 37 years later, on 10th October 2025, she is sharing LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right), which is marketed as a sequel to her debut album success.

Tanita Tikaram – About The Artist

Tanita Tikaram is a British singer-songwriter, who is majorly seen as a folk and pop artist. Her father has a Fijian descent, while her mother is originally from Malaysia. As her father was in the British Army in these days, she was born on 12th August 1969 in Münster in Germany. Starting to sing in nightclubs, she grew attention from record companies, which finally lead to the release of her debut album Ancient Heart in September 1988. Already the first single Good Tradition made it into the Top 10 of he British, Irish, and Swedish charts. The sophomore one, Twist in My Sobriety, was especially popular in Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland. The album itself was a huge success, topping the Austrian, German, Norwegian and Swiss charts and being a double platinum record in Germany and her home country.

With golden records in Germany, Switzerland and the United Kingdom, her sophomore record The Sweet Keeper could somehow connect to it. However, the sales decreased. Especially in the three major German-speaking countries, she kept a certain popularity, though. LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right) is Tikaram’s tenth studio album overall. Her ninth one, Closer to the People, has been released in 2016.

Tanita Tikaram – LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right) – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 45 minutes.

1. Turn The Lights Down Low

I have to admit: I haven’t listened to new Tanita Tikaram since the mid-1990’s likely. However, the opener Turn The Lights Down Low brings back that feeling without feeling a copy of her songs of that era. Her warm voice, the calm and unagitated vocal style feel too familiar. The folk song comes with a nice rhythm and feel very relatable. It is also very nicely arranged with strings and a stunning plot. I like it.

2. Fais Moi La Solitude

The second song is the almost five minute long Fais Moi La Solitude. Despite the title, the majority of the song is coming with English lyrics. The song has a prolonged instrumental part as well and feels absolutely hymnic with a spherical, mysterious touch. A very intense and demanding listen.

3. This Perfect Friend

The next section of the album majorly features songs, which have been released a singles beforehand. This Perfect Friend is the first of four of those songs (only interrupted by one unreleased track). The song is a mindful flow, which leads to a impressing experience. A beautiful piece of music, which underlines the the musical expertise of Tikaram.

4. I See A Morning

Again, Tanita Tikaram starts with a rather reduced instrumental setting and a clear focus on the vocals and her story. It is fascinating, how the main theme I see a Morning, I see a beautiful sky is more and more developing. The fourth song of LIAR feels like a beautiful, heartwarming musical sunrise.

5. Fear And Chills

Tikaram is doing what is needed to tell her stories in an impressing way. The feature single Fear And Chills is a beautiful example for that. It feels very vocal-centric  at the beginning, but later develops towards an almost bombastic and massive listen. Wow.

6. Love Isn’t A Right

The block of four already released songs is solely interrupted by the title track. Love Isn’t A Right is the shortest track on the album, just lasting less than three minutes. However with its rhythm and its speed as well as the wide, almost orchestral arrangement, it does leave a strong mark. You likely won’t listen to this one on mainstream radio – but you should still give it a try.

7. Lover Don’t Come Around

LIAR (Live Isn’t A Right) is taking up quite some speed in this part of the album. Not only because the songs are more rhythmic and zesty, they are also a shorter than the average duration on this album. Songs like the rather folk-alike Lover Don’t Come Around profit a lot from that. Nonetheless, they are written with the sufficient beauty and musical level to fascinate.

8. Sweet Feather & The Storm

After these rather brief listens, Tanita Tikaram adds the most epic song of the album. Sweet Feather & The Storm is a 6:24 minute listen. In earlier parts of the record, she already underlined that her songs have a great plot – the eighth track is massively profiting from that talent. Sweet feather and the storm, we had such good times – that’s how I would describe my experience after the listen as well.

9. Wild Is The Wind

Wild Is The Wind majorly feels like a dramatic piano ballad. Again, the vocal parts impress as well as the extended instrumental ones. Even though partially, there are not too many thrilling themes in the song, it simply feels catching, impressing. You do not dare to forward or to skip. LIAR is full of intense experiences – and that’s definitely one of its best ones.

10. Sailboats

Here and there, the album has a jazzy touch. The closing track is definitely one of the strongest listens in that regard. It is a beautiful farewell and fade-out from this special album.

Tanita Tikaram – LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right) – My View

Wow! I was absolutely curious when I received the promo of the new Tanita Tikaram album. As said before, I had no clue what to expect from this one. LIAR (Love Isn’t A Right) is full of depth, intensity and musical expertise. It is absolutely enjoyable listening to the British artist. I hope the public response will appreciate that as well.
