Flyctory.com Cons

  • Slightly run down room

One of the shows I followed during the European Weird Al Yankovic Tour 2023 has been the one in Glasgow. The walking distance to the venue made me opt for the Holiday Inn Express Glasgow City Centre Riverside, even though there were some more central options. With the Holiday Inn Express outlets Dublin City Center and Glasgow Airport, this has also been the third stay in that brand in a row. Here is my review of the IHG Hotel, based on the stay in February 2023.

Holiday Inn Express Glasgow-Riverside – Location

The hotel is located slightly South of Glasgow City, very close to the River Clyde. Argyle Street rail station and St Enough subway station can be reached in five to at most ten minutes. There is also a major bus stop around the corner. You also walk a few minutes to the key shopping street. Walking distance to Glasgow Central Station is slightly above ten minutes. Thus, you overall have a really nice connection to several Central Glasgow attractions. The connection to Glasgow Airport (GLA) might be more tricky and require a transfer.

Holiday Inn Express Glasgow-Riverside – Room

I had a one day stay in February 2023, Sunday to Monday. The flexible rate was 76.62 GBP. Breakfast is always included in Holiday Inn Express hotels. As said, it has been the third stay in a row in a hotel of that brand, so that the design of the room did not give me too many thrills. It is nice, colorful, functional. The huge contrast to the two stays before is that that hotel featured a proper work desk, which I highly appreciated. However, the room overall also felt to be a bit older and more used than the two stays before.

The bathroom was fine. I like the large dispensers for soap and shower gel. The toilet area felt a bit of narrow, but was overall absolutely fit for purpose, despite my rather increased body size.

Holiday Inn Express Glasgow-Riverside – Breakfast / Food

The Holiday Inn Express runs a rather large breakfast room. The selection of items was really fine. Due to my train connection heading on to Manchester I have obviously been rather early. The quality of the breakfast was absolutely fine and in line with the stays I had before.

Holiday Inn Express Glasgow-Riverside – Service

Staff and WiFi in the hotel worked fine. I did not check out any other additional services.

Holiday Inn Express Glasgow-Riverside – My View

The hotel would likely be more fancy with some renovation, but it is a good option. The services are fine, the state of the room is easily bearable. The location guarantees this service level at an affordable price. Overall, these reasons turn the Holiday Inn Express Glasgow-Riverside to a good option for a city trip.
