Wow, I had a quite intense week this time. I rarely had that many live events in a short time – and there will be a lot of interesting things the next weeks as well. On the music market side, it was definitely a week of very interesting albums. Of course, the album of the week is Taylor Swift’s the Life of a Showgirl (which I could not review for timing reasons). The list of new songs I really liked is surprisingly short, though – but it got some really nice highlights. Enjoy my Songs of the Week as of the first week of October 2025.
Gunz – The Fractured View
GUNZ is a very interesting band project from the Faroe Islands. The band name is the nickname of Gunnar Thomsen, who is better known as the bassist of Tyr. He is joined by Hans Hammer, who was part of Asyllex. The guitar solo is a also played by a Tyr member, Terji Skibenæs. A great rocker from my favorite Nordic place.
Thrice – Holding On
Another rougher rock music listen is Holding On. The California post hardcore band Thrice released this one on Monday already. Really fun an energetic. In Spring 2026, they are planning to visit Europe on tour.
Ado – The Story of the Wind and I
The first three songs I picked this week are already covering a wide range of the world. Ado is a J-Pop singer. However, the new single from the Japanese artist is rather rocking. I found it in a bulk promo (where agencies more or less put any kind of song in they don’t want to promote “properly”) and simply loved it.
Jenn Bostic – See You Now
Jenn Bostic released another amazing song this year. Being a mother now by herself, she is reflecting about her relationship to her mother. Needless to say that the outcome is truly magical.
Victoria Akua – Let The Light In
Victoria Akua is a Danish artist from Copenhagen. I featured the new EP of her countrymate He Is Tall. this week – they are in fact even at the same record company. A beautiful, gentle song between indie, pop and folk.
Magdalena – Ghosts
Another really interesting and catching blend of different genres is Ghosts by Magdalena. The Austrian artist is merging indie pop sounds with psychedelic influences. A really good and characteristic sound.
Josh Island – Unconditionally
I really like the mixture of different regional origins in this Songs of the Week posts. Josh Islands is a singer-songwriter from Luxembourg. Unconditionally teases his new album Imaginary Borders, which is scheduled to be released in March 2026. A really nice pop track.
Simply Blue – Baby Baby Blue
Markus Bachem, known as Simply Blue, is back with a new song. The song feels so 1990’s synth-pop alike, I just have to love it. The female voice who is joining the Bonn-origin composer and producer is Melanie Engels.
Oimara x Melissa Naschenweng – Koa Bergbauernbaua
Southern German artist Oimara, who had the outstanding hit Wackelkontakt, is joining forces with Austria’s traditional folk rock pride Melissa Naschenweng. He is asking her whether she is really just going for Bergbauernbuas (“Mountain Farmer Boys”). The song is an outstand blend of rock, pop, and folk.
