During a trip in late 2024, I needed a one night stay close to Abu Dhabi Airport (AUH). I thus did not opt for a hotel close to the city center, but for the Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate, which is rather East of the U.A.E. capital. Here is my review.

 

 

Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate – Location

The hotel is located in the Southeast of Abu Dhabi, right North of the Al Khaleey Al Arabi Street, one of the highways reaching into the city. The building in fact features two hotels, it even shares some facilities with the ibis Abu Dhabi Gate. The wider area around the hotel features some nice attractions, like Al Qana and The National Aquarium Abu Dhabi, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque or one of my “hidden gem” favorites in the city, Wahat Al Karama. However, there are no major services around the hotel.

The easiest to reach the hotel is by car. If you come from Dubai or the airport, you typically pass the hotel, take the next exit and head back in opposite direction. There is a bus stop right in front of the hotel, though (Al Maqta St / Ibis Abu Dhabi Gate Hotel stop, line 23).

 

Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate – Room

I had a one night stay, Friday to Saturday in October 2024, in the hotel. The booking was based on a flexible, non-public rate. The Superior Room was really nice and came with a modern Novotel design. It also had sufficient space. I also enjoyed the work desk, which was very helpful and featured multiple interfaces. The high floor room had a really nice room. As an Accor Gold member, I received some really nice Arabian sweets as a welcome present.

The shower and bathtub bathroom had a nice size and also had sufficient space for your own toiletries. Apart from some additional items, amenities were provided in dispensers. The whole room felt rather new and was well maintained and clean.

 

Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate – Breakfast

I love breakfast in the United Arab Emirates. The Novotel one did not reach the level of other places, but had a really nice variety of local and international items. Furthermore, the breakfast restaurant had a really nice style with a lot of daylight. The service was really nice.

 

Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate – Service

I did have to wait a bit at check-in, also because the receptionist preferred another guest. Nonetheless, the staff and service was nice. The WiFi connection worked very well. The ibis and the Novotel share the main hallway, so that you can use the services there, like a cafe, from both hotels. The Novotel pool is really nice, even though it is not too large. There is also a spa and a really nice gym.

 

Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate – My View

The location of the Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate is indeed a bit of remote. However, if you have a rental car, it is a nice location for trips to the city center, Yas Island, Dubai and other locations. The price is typically rather nice, the services are good and despite the location close to highways, it is comparably quiet.
