Ibn Battuta Gate is not only right next to my favorite mall in Dubai, the Ibn Battuta Mall, but it is also truly one of the most iconic pieces of architecture in the Untied Arab Emirates city. Apart from offices and residential buildings, it also features a hotel. Since its opening, I had it on my bucket list, but somehow never made it. In the meantime, the former Möwenpick turned into an Oaks hotel, an Australian brand, which is majorly active in Asia and Oceania. In February 2024, I finally made it and had one night at this place.

Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate – Location

The Oaks is located right next to Ibn Battuta Gate in Southern Dubai. The scenery is iconic as you see on the pictures above. Right across the street, Ibn Battuta Mall offers a nice range of shopping and dining options. If you want to go on a day trip to Al Ain or Abu Dhabi, your Southbound trip starts without the Central Dubai traffic hassle. The hotel is also nicely located to reach the Dubai Parks, including Legoland Dubai.

In regards of travel, Dubai is somehow a car city. The hotel offers free valet parking. However, the Ibn Battuta Metro Station of Dubai Metro is not too far away as well. Walking along the main street is a bit of bothering. If you come from the South by car, you almost have to pass the whole mall before you are allowed to make a U turn.

Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate – Atmosphere

If you like Ibn Battuta Mall, you will like the design of the Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate. The main lobby (or shall I better name it: Big Hall?) on ground level is simply breathtaking and features several restaurant. The five star rated hotel is thereby referencing to the travels of the famous explorer. My room, for example, was located in the ninth floor, which is branded as Morocco (unfortunately, the branding is rather decent, I would love to have it even stronger. I rarely spend more time ever in a hotel exploring its lovely interior and exterior architecture.

Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate – Room

I had a one night stay at the hotel, Saturday to Sunday in February 2024. I had booked a king room at a flexible rate, including breakfast. The reservation was denominated in my local currency, 179.82 EUR. Due to my GHA Discovery Platinum Status, I have been upgraded to an executive room. This just leads to a nicer room, there is no executive lounge or similar service. The room had a nice style, but did not feel like five star place. Nonetheless, I really liked my room, which came with all amenities I needed. The room size was absolutely adequate.

The bathroom with bathtub was nice as well. The bidet is located right opposite of the toilet. basic amenities are provided at the sink and in the shower. For a one-night stay, this was absolutely adequate. House keeping was good as well, so that the room was absolutely clean. The room had a great view of the gate and the mall, which I absolutely loved.

Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate – Breakfast

If there is one thing you have to love about better hotels in the United Arab Emirates (apart from the service level), it is definitely the amazing breakfast services provided. Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate is in the upper range compared to other Dubai places I have been to. There are dishes from all over the world, from cereals to Japanese food and from fruit to egg dishes. Of course, there is also domestic cuisine. Some of the dishes are made in live cooking station. I loved kicking off the day at this place.

Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate – Service

The staff was very friendly and attentive. There are several cafes and minor stores throughout the building. WiFi worked very well, as in mostly all hotels in Dubai. Apart from the lovely design and atmosphere of the hotel, its pool area is one of the key elements of the hotel. The open air deck between the two wings of the hotel leads to an amazing atmosphere, day and night. I loved hanging out there, even though it was rainy during my visit. The hotel also offers a spa area and a nice gym.

Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate – My View

I really loved staying at the Oaks Ibn Battuta Gate. The design of the hotel is breathtaking. The main hall as well as the pool is as memorable as the scenery next to Ibn Battuta Gate. Being close to one of the nicest malls in town is another plus. Overall, there are a lot of good memories of this short stay – and thus, this place definitely deserves the Top Pick! rating.
