Same year, same story? On 26th April 2025, it was time to travel to Sweden again. The SM-Finalen, the Swedish Floorball Finals, called for the focus of the global floorball community. First of all, there was the women’s match at noon at Avicii Arena. The match-up featured the favorite teams, Pixbo IBK from Gothenburg and Thorengruppen IBK from Umea. After Pixbo had beaten their rivals in the Champions Cup Final in January 2025, they felt ready for another upset. They brought three Swiss players, Lara Heini, Celine Stettler and Isabelle Gerig, to the iconic venue, facing players like the Finnish Kauppi twins or legend Emelie Wibron.

Pixbo IBK – Thorengruppen IBK – Match Report
The first minutes of the match started rather tactical. There were not too many chances in this part of the game. Thorengruppen felt a bit more active, but Pixbo had few nice attacks as well. However, the Gothenburg team felt to struggle with the first row of their opponents. Thus, the Kauppi twins made use of that. After nine minutes, Oona Kauppi passed to her sister Veera, who was in the right spot to score the first goal of the match. Pixbo tried to fight back right thereafter, but more and more, the Umea team got control of the match. Veera Kauppi added the second goal for her team in the 15th minute, aiming for the long post after a My Kippilä assist. Thorengruppen controlled the remaining period and even felt dominant in that part of the match. However, the score stayed at 0-2 after 20 minutes.
Unlucky Pixbo against Strong Thorengruppen
Also at the beginning of the second period, Pixbo just did not feel being lucky. Lara Heini caused a penalty shot in the fourth minute, which was at least arguable. The goalkeeper stopped a left wing attack with a straddle and definitely played the ball before hitting the forward. Nonetheless, the referees crossed their arms over their heads. Veera Kauppi gave the Swiss National Team goalie no chance and raised the score to 0-3. Emelie Wibron’s goal five minutes later was one of the weirdest ones I ever saw. She profited by an “attempt” from her teammate Ebba Törngren, who intentionally kicked the ball in the direction of the goal. Lara Heini just was able to block and Wibron went for the rebound. The goal was in line with the rules, somehow clever, but also not really what floorball should look alike.
The bad faith for the West Coast team felt to continue. Right before Thorengruppen raised the lead to five goal, Pixbo was likely not too wrong in claiming a penalty after Axina Pettersson was hindered to shoot from short distance. The cheer was on the other side, when Maja Viström scored in the 31st minute. However, Pixbo did not give up and could close up the score a bit. After her team had wasted a couple of opportunities, Moa Andersson broke the bad spell on her team, scoring in the 33rd minute after a nice run by Klara Loneberg. When Isabelle Gerig had a successful snipe in th 37th minute, there was some hope for a comeback. Pixbo managed to add pressure and also played more physical now. However, just about one minute later, Cajsa Alm went for the 2-6 intermission score. Her shot from the distance did not feel that dangerous, but made it into Heini’s net.
Pixbo creates some Thrill in Avicii Arena
Pixbo had given a hint that they don’t want to give up – and they continued with pressure are forechecking after the break. Gerig nicely stole the ball from the Umea defense, held it and found Emma Heander in the 44th minute. The score stayed at 3-6 and went into the powerbreak in the 51st minute. Pixbo decided to pull Heini right after the intermission – and especially the line of Mira Markström and Gerig profited from the extra attacker. With six field players on court, Mira Markström scored twice, in the 51st and 53rd minute, so that the score was just 5-6 with more than seven minutes to play. However, they reverted that strategy, which lead to some attacks, but no further goals. With just 84 seconds left to play, the nominal host team went for the time out. Again, Heini stayed on the bench, but this time, Veera Kauppi stole a pass and converted into the empty net in the final minute. The match closed with a 7-5 victory for Thorengruppen IBK.
Pixbo IBK – Thorengruppen IBK – My View of the Match
Pixbo could not connect to their success in the Champions Cup final. They were less effective in offense in the first part of the match and not strong enough in defense. The burden of trailing by five goals against their very effective opponents came too late. Heini, who was the shut-out hero on European level, had an unlucky match as well. Thorengruppen dominated in most parts of the first two periods. Pixbo made a real battle out of the match in the third period, but finally could not come back. Deservedly, the SSL Cup on the women’s side goes to the North of the Scandinavian country – like in 2024. The four goal Kauppi twins were the clear pocket aces for the team from Umea.
