Hall of Fame Open 2024 – MSQ R1: A. Ganesan (USA) – M. Polmans (AUS) 2-6 2-6

The first day at the Infosys Hall of Fame Open also featured one match which was interesting from an Indian tennis focus. In the first round of singles qualification, wildcard player Adhithya Ganesan faced Australian Marc Polmans. Ganesan is a US player, who is – as his name is suggesting – having Indian roots. A nice way to warm up with an individual match coverage at the holy grass courts in Newport.

Infosys Hall of Fame Open – Ganesan – Polmans – Match Notes

ATP 1192-ranked Ganesan had a quite reasonable start against Polmans, who traveled to Newport with a ranking of 217 (career high 116). However, especially at own serve, the US-American player had too much trouble. He had a first set first serve percentage of 52%, which lead to constant pressure. Even though he played some nice points, Polmans felt just too constant. The Australian had a first serve percentage of 82% in the first set, just allowing two points at all against his first serve. Ganesan even felt to have a chance to come back into the match, when he broke Polman’s serve. However, his opponent felt too routined and especially played stronger in the challanging situations of the set.

Even though Polmans did run into some serving struggle in the second set (52% first serve), he felt dominant and was especially strong at second serve. In addition, he converted both break points he had in the whole set, so that he absolutely deserved to advance to the final round of the singles qualification, running into his countryman Tristan Schoolkate.
