For my coverage of the 2025 FZ17 Floorball All-Star Game in Hamburg, I opted for another IntercityHotel option in the Northern German city. After I had visited their other outlets before, I had one night in July 2025 at the IntercityHotel Hamburg Dammtor. Here is my review of the stay.

 

IntercityHotel Hamburg Dammtor – Location

While most of the IntercityHotels are right at or very close to a train station, IntercityHotel Hamburg Dammtor is some ten minutes away from Hamburg-Dammtor station. There is a majorly covered footpath from the station to the hotel, which is a bit of bothering due to its surface. The area around the hotel is very limited in service. Remarkably, the bartender suggested me to use Uber Eats for dining instead of taking one of their basic meals, which are in fact microwave convenience food. Despite its vast range of connections, Hamburg-Dammtor station is rather run down in regards of services. You should use the options in the city center or at Hamburg Altona or Hamburg Main Station instead.

Hamburg Dammtor station features regional, local, as well as national rail connections. A vast majority of the domestic and international services serving Hamburg Main Station stop there, too. As Dammtor just has two platforms with four tracks and, for Southbound services, it is a stop before the main station, it is often very convenient to board the train there. Alternatively, there is a bus stop right in front of the building. Unfortunately, it is only used for certain events. The closest underground station is Messehallen (line U2).

 

IntercityHotel Hamburg Dammtor – Room

I had one night at the IntercityHotel in July 2025, Saturday to Sunday. The non-flexible rate excluding breakfast for a Business Room was 165 EUR. At that time, my H Rewards status added the breakfast for free to the booking. In the meantime, H World International has changed the rules, though. The room came with a typical IntercityHotel design. It did not feature the local map behind the bed, though. It had a reasonable space and I liked the large work desk. My status granted me a free bottle of water and a really nice fruit and snack platter. I also liked the view from the hotel room over the area.

The bathroom had a nice size and also offered sufficient space for your personal items. Amenities were provided in dispensers. Like the whole room and hotel, the bathroom felt well maintained and clean.

 

IntercityHotel Hamburg Dammtor – Breakfast

The hotel drives a nice breakfast room on the ground floor. Due to a sports event, it was very well booked and thus the breakfast was packed. Nonetheless, the service provided was good and featured a nice selection.

 

IntercityHotel Hamburg Dammtor – Service

The staff was very friendly and welcoming. After I struggled with the branding and the services at the IntercityHotel Bremen the weekend before, I was also prpperly welcomed as a status member of their loyalty program H-Rewards, including a 10 Euro food / drink voucher. The complimentary WiFi worked very well.

 

IntercityHotel Hamburg Dammtor – My View

The IntercityHotel Hamburg Dammtor is an excellent choice for trade fairs. However, at these times, prices may be very high. The location is a bit of tricky, as the walk from Dammtor train station can be a bit of lengthy, if you travel with luggage. Bad luck, as the hotel itself offers really nice service.
