Zug United U21 – Kloten-Dietlikon Jets U21 4-7 (2-3, 1-2, 1-2)

On 1st November 2025, it was time for heading to Switzerland again. Two interesting women floorball match-ups were on that day in Zug. Both times, hosting Zug United faced the Kloten-Dietlikon Jets. The first one, the Under 21 Women match was the battle of the league leaders. Both teams were unbeaten in the season so far, the Jets lead the table as Zug had one overtime victory. An interesting match-up at the Dreifachsporthalle Kantonsschule in Zug. Here is my match report.

Zug United U21 – Kloten-Dietlikon Jets U21 – Match Report

The hosts felt to be slightly more active in the beginning, but the first goal was on the Jets. Celine Handschin scored in the 3rd minute after a left wing attack. The smile on the Kloten-Dietlikon Jets, who are also coached by the German Andy Kappler, did not last that long. In the fifth minute, Stella Räber sniped the equalizer. When Melanie Landolt added the second goal for Zug from a short distance, the momentum felt being on the host team.

However, one of the key strengths of the Jets were that they did find the right actions on the playbook of Zug United on that afternoon. In the last minutes of the first period, this materialized for the guests. Giulia Gattiker tied the score in the 14th minute and about a minute later, Kloten-Dietlikon was back in the lead after a goal by Sophie Glauninger.

The Jets fly on in Zug in the second period

There were moments in the game, where Zug had a better grip on their opponents. Emilia Moser took profit of that, tying the score in the 28th minute. However, the Greater Zurich region guests really acted smarter and more effective on that day.  A fast break completed by Leyna Lüthi in the 30th minute gave them back the lead. Two minutes later, Mia Oehri was even able to increase the lead to two goals, shooting from an ideal scoring position after a nice pass by Ella Carniello. In the last two minutes of the period, Oehri was back on the match report. However, Zug could not take profit of her bench penalty for incorrect pushing.

Zug struggles in the battle for the league lead

Zug United struggled in the deciding moments of the match. The guests also felt more energetic when they had to. Early in the third period, they had another power-play situation, when Glauniger was sent off for a hit (43rd). No score in the one woman advantage phase – but the jets did better at full strength. Jael Fassler turned around in the 48th minute and the ball hit the net. The Jets now had a three goal lead, 6-3. Just some 30 seconds later, the score closed up again. From a central left postion, Svenja Schilliger scored for the hosts.

Zug was now willing to come back, but the Jets acted too smart and disciplined. The Jets felt too solid, Noemi Jöhr did not have to go for too many saves during that time. United’s hopes faded when  Handschin scored her second goal of the day with five minutes left on the clock, profiting from another precise pass by Carniello. In the 57th minute, the Jets had to face another short-handed situation after a disputed call against Lynn Eggli (interference). Surprisingly, Zug United did not pull Nuria Egger. The clock was ticking down and even though the hosts finally did play with six field players in the final minute, there was too little pressure on the opponents’s goal to turn the game.

Zug United U21 – Kloten-Dietlikon Jets U21 – My View of the Match

The Kloten-Dietlikon Jets did an impressing performance on the road. There were just few situations in which Zug United could have gotten a grip on that match, but overall, they faced a too strong and too disciplined opponent. There are a lot of match to still be played, but this Saturday evening performance definitely put Kloten-Dietlikon into the clear position of the favorites for that 2025/26 season.
