George’s Street Arcade (Dublin, Pictured Story)

I rather frequently travel to Dublin for business reasons. However, the Weird Al Yankovic Tour 2023 gave me a rather rare opportunity to have some time to explore the Irish capital. A place I happened to run into is the George’s Street Arcade, a shopping arcade in the heart of the city. I decided to share this place with you. Here is my Pictured Story.

George’s Street Arcade – Location & Times

George’s Street is located in Central Dublin. The arcade connects South Great George’s Street on the West and Drury Street in the East. The place can be easily reached from several other attractions by a short walk. Right opposite the West exit, there is the Exchequer Street bus stop, which is served by numerous bus lines

The arcade is typically opening from 9:00 to 18:00. On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, it closes at 19:00, which Sunday times are 11:00 to 18:00. The arcade is a public place without any admission or similar fees. The show opening times may, of course, differ from the arcade times.

Impressions of George’s Street Arcade

George’s Street Arcade is the first Victorian shopping center in Dublin. Construction began in 1876, while the arcade, at that time South City Markets, opened in 1881. After a reconstruction, the market underwent a renovation leading to a re-opening in 1894. The general structure is still the same. There are numerous shops of all kinds, as you can see in the pictures below. Apart from books, media, handcraft and touristic items, you find various services. For example, there is an art gallery or multiple cafes. It is really entertaining to walk through the stores and stroll through the vast variety of items.
