Dubai is not only a place where you run into people from all over the world, but also in hotel brands, which you are not used to as a European. One of these brands is Avani. I had night with them before, but I did not really enjoy their performance staying at their outlet at ibn Battuta Mall. For February 2024, I nonetheless gave them another try and checked out the Avani Deira Hotel Dubai, which is one of the boroughs of the city, where Dubai really kicked off booming. This also means that some structures might be a bit of more outdated. Nonetheless, I was really curious about this place.
Avani Deira Hotel Dubai – Location
The hotel is located in Deira, the rather historic district of Dubai. It is right Northwest of the end of the runways of Dubai International Airport (DXB). The sound insulation is good, though, so that it is not bothering. The area is nowadays typical for typical expat services, so that it is not only loaded with restaurants, but also shops and services of all kind. There are numerous other hotels in the area.
The hotel is located at the crossing of the D78 and D80 road, at its Northwest edge. If you come by car, though, you can only access the hotel from the North via D78. The hotel offers free valet parking. However, the location is also very nice if you don’t have a car. The Dubai Metro station Abu Baker Al Siddique (Green Line) is more or less right across the street crossing. Driving distance to the airport is at most ten minutes, even under average congestion.
Avani Deira Hotel Dubai – Room
This night was the cheapest of my whole trip over the Cologne carnival holidays. My booking was a flexible rate for one night, Sunday to Monday, for a King Superior Room. Including breakfast and taxes, this room was 508 AED, roughly 130 EUR. Due to my GHA Discover Titanium top tier status, I received a complimentary upgrade to the King Executive Suite. Even though you see that the design of the room is maybe not as modern as Dubai’s latest centers for a good snore, it was an amazing treat.
Right from the hallway, you entered the large living room with a sofa and a dinner table. There was also one fridge and a coffee maker in the room. The living area felt very welcoming. The seperate sleeping room als felt absolutely generous. It also included the large work desk (I rather like that one to be in the living area, matter of taste), another large TV set and the hallway to the ensuite bathroom, which also came with a lot of storage for your clothing, another coffee machine and water kettle for tea and another fridge. Both rooms come with lage windows. Despite you are next to major roads, the metro and flight traffic (unfortunately I could only hear the planes, but not see them), I felt that everything was surprisingly quiet.
The ensuite bathroom was an absolute treat as well. Not too modern, but very functional. It had a large shower and a separate bathtub, as well as toilet and a bidet. You also had two sinks, so that you don’t block with your companion in the bathroom. Finally, you could also use the guest toilet to avoid that, which at least also featured a sink. Several spots in the suite featured universal power outlets, which I absolutely loved. The suite was very well maintained.
Avani Deira Hotel Dubai – Breakfast
The price for the hotel is comparably low. Thus, even if you may argue that there is a little bit less selection in the Avani than in other hotels, they do a good job. Don’t get me wrong, if you are in Dubai for the first time and have breakfast at the Avani Deira Hotel Dubai, you will feel it is an absolutely rich feast. The level of breakfast service in other hotels, though, is sometimes simply breathtaking. The Avani also offered a live cooking station for egg dishes, a lot of fruit and cold cuts, so the start of the day definitely met my expectations.
The hotel also features some additional restaurants. Especially for lunch, where they have a business lunch offering, it might be favorable to go for it, the price is very nice.
Avani Deira Hotel Dubai – Service
I loved the staff at the hotel. They were very friendly. A bit of strange, I received a request by e-mail to pay the room a day before arrival. As the reservation number did not match my GHA Discovery account, I did not go for it. Finally, I could just pay at the reception. The WiFi connection was good and sufficiently fast. If you have a lot of data, you might like other higher speed places more, maybe.
On top floor, the hotel features a gym and a pool. This area looks a bit of old, but it definitely covers your need. The rooftop pool area might not be picturesque, but it comes with a bit of a view over Deira and the surrounding Dubai, which is actually quite nice. Unfortunately, there was quite a bit of a shower during my stay – otherwise I would have loved to have a bit of a swim and maybe also do some planespotting from there.
Avani Deira Hotel Dubai – My View
I really enjoy the decision becoming a GHA Discovery status sleeper. The brands really seem to appreciate my loyalty. The upgrade to the suite was amazing, especially as I felt tired and weather prevented me from exploring Deira, which has been my initial plan. With the rather close connection to the airport, the gas station nearby and the nice staff, the Avani Deira Hotel Dubai definitely exceeded my expectations.
