  • Wide range of very relatable, perfectly told stories
  • Feels like an amazing, personal storybook

It’s almost two years ago since Luke Combs released his most recent album, Fathers & Sons.  I absolutely loved the record and gave it a full 5.0 rating. Will Combs be as good in 2026 as well? On 20th March 2026, he shared his new album, The Way I Am. Let’s have a listen together.

Luke Combs – About The Artist

The Way I Am is already the sixth album released by Luke Combs. Thereby the US-American artist turned professional in 2014 at the age of 24. Three years alter, his debut album This One’s for You already topped the US-American Country Charts. In 2019, What You See Is What You Get was a global success, including five RIAA platinum records and an overall chart lead in his home country. So far, any Luke Combs album peaked at least second in the US Country Charts.

Luke Combs – The Way I Am – Track by Track

The 22 song album lasts 73 minutes.

1. Back in the Saddle

Don’t worry where I’ve been, I’m back in the saddle again – what’s a better message to start the 2026 Luke Combs album? The song is one of eight tracks Luke shared before the album (still, 14 are new to fans). And it has been the most successful one, if you look at Spotify streams. A cool country rocker with a laid back, groovy, typical Luke Combs signature. Feels like hitting the bull’s eye with your first darts already.

2. My Kinda Saturday Night

Country music meets rock’n’roll – and creates a lot of fun. That’s what you expect of a perfect boots and hard hat Saturday Night. And: it is exactly what the second song is creating. Still twenty songs remaining – but the album already gives you a good feeling. The great work on the instrumental side drives the feel-good on the musical side. Nice one!

3. Days Like These

When the sky is blue and the grass is green
How much better can it be?
If I got you and you got me
We got everything we need
And even if it grew on trees
Well, money can’t buy days like these

When it comes to country music, you quickly tend to quote this three chords and the truth thing. Honest feelings, songs you can relate to. After the speedy and energetic beginning, Luke Combs is going for a song full of emotions, majorly driven by his voice and a strumming acoustic guitar. You are cheered up in the first two songs, now he is warming up your country heart as well.

4. 15 Minutes

Even though the fourth song has not been that successful commercially so far, it is a beautiful piece of storytelling. Just having 15 Minutes for a call home, checking out what is going on. A typical country song about home, the value of family and being connected to people you love. But Luke Combs is simply doing these kind of stories in his very special, lovely way. You calm down and enjoy listening to him.

5. Alcohol of Fame

With the first four songs of The Way I Am being released as singles beforehand, Alcohol of Fame takes the responsibility to drive you into the so-far “unknown” part of the record. It is not too rocking to disperse rather traditional country music listeners, not too traditional to chase away the modern country rock lovers. And it will be a great song on his upcoming shows. Just because… It is a typical country music topic one.

I need a longneck bottle, I need a jukebox song
I need a neon angel to kickstart my movin’ on
When they turn them go-home lights on, I swear they’re gonna know my name
I’m ’bout to drink myself into the alcohol of fame

6. Daytona 499

Even though I had mixed feelings during the Daytona International Speedway Tour, I can’t deny: it’s a legendary racing place. Luke Combs takes NASCAR racing as a metaphor for a “race” in life which almost worked out. We coulda been Earnhardt in that 3 car down in victory lane, as he is saying. But finally, the part that hurts the most is, girl, we were so damn close. A love song with fast cars and gasoline – a bit of kitschy, but somehow nice.

7. The Way I Am

Love is the key topic of the title track as well. The Way I Am is a lovely country music ballad. One of these songs, which are so beautiful and unique. One of these songs which are magical when Luke Combs is doing them.

Yeah, I know it’s always mostly me to blame
But I can’t outrun the wild that’s in my veins
I’m a walking contradiction, but a well-intentioned man
So you still love me just the way I am

8. Wish Upon a Whiskey

Wish Upon a Whiskey is another personal song, which feels so relatable. Luke Combs is talking about the troublesome and desperate moments in life. I’m my own worst enemy, ’cause I just keep drowning in this Tennessee. One of the slower songs of The Way I Am, which come with lovely, straight storytelling.

9. Soon As I Get Home

I got thirty more miles left, two red lights, and one stop sign, before you’re mine – that’s how Luke Combs describes the desire of being back home again. He is reflecting about all the things he is doing as Soon As I Get Home. Still in the slower range, the song is a bit more rhythmic than the songs before. Another very personal songs, which many people can relate to.

10. Rethink Some Things

Love, the support of family, also in bad times, these are key topics of The Way I Am (and country music in general). And the rhythmic country-pop song Rethink Some Things is just focusing on this topic. You’re the kinda woman make a man rethink some things, Luke Combs praises his spouse Nicole Hocking in this song. With less than three minutes, the song is a rather short message. But it leaves a mark.

11. Giving Her Away

After a set of new songs, the first half of the album is closing with Giving Her Away. The song addresses Combs’ father in law and praises the magic of his magic. Only she coulda got us both in suits, only she coulda got us out our boots, Luke states at the beginning of the chorus. Later in it, he adds

Man, you brought your baby
I brought a ring
And I’m giving her my name
And you’re giving her away

Again, Luke Combs is telling a very personal story, a very individual one. But still, it feels so relatable, fits so well to the life of many listeners. Hardly any song on this album better underlines that well why Combs’ way of telling stories is so special.

12. Seeing Someone

Set between two single releases, Seeing Someone describes being attracted by a special person, who is drawing your attention. Maybe the twelfth song is not the most present song of the album, but it comes with lovely storytelling again.

13. Sleepless in a Hotel Room

Sleepless in a Hotel Room – do I still have to tell you too much about this one? It has been one of the biggest songs of the album promotion campaign. It also makes the album move towards more a rocking and groovy signature. The chorus feels so Luke Combs-alike and feels it could be one of the key songs of his 2026 tour. Nice!

14. I Ain’t No Cowboy

I Ain’t No Cowboy has been the last single release before The Way I Am. The chorus closes with I ain’t no cowboy, but now I wish I was. The song is full of country music romantics – and romance.

15. Ever Mine (feat. Alison Krauss)

Having Alison Krauss as a guest musician in this one made me look forward to Ever Mine even more. Finally, it is a prayer for peace, for living respectfully together. Or like the lyrics state, this is my prayer that our daughter and our sons wrap their arms around each other and never around a gun. Even though I would have wished Alison Krauss would be even more present in the song, it is undeniably one of the strongest messages of the record.

16. Can’t Tell Me I’m Wrong

After that impactful listen, Can’t tell Me I’m Wrong has a much easier touch. The strumming guitars, the fine rhythm, the nice instrumental themes with Latin music vibes spread some fun, happy vibes. A nice one about a wonderful twosome night.

17. Miss You Here

Despite being in a little one-horse town west of Arizona,
million miles from the stars we kissed under, Luke Combs is still thinking about a special girl. I shouldn’t miss you here, he states. You can’t distract you from some kind of feelings. And that’s exactly what Combs is putting into this story.

18. Tell ‘Em About Tonight

With Tell ‘Em About Tonight, the album has another more rhythmic and rocking song. The song has a typical Luke Combs signature. The song is about about his experience of being on stage, dealing with the love and expectation of the audience. And his appreciation, despite someday these lights are gonna fade. I am sure Luke Combs fans will love this song.

19. Be By You

The record is down to its 19th (!) song already – and Be By You is also the last one which has been shared beforehand. Even if you don’t know it yet, the title tells you what it is all about. When Combs states I just wanna be by you with a wonderful and gentle sway, you simply have to enjoy these kind of emotions.

20. The Me Part of You

The 20th song is dedicated to Luke Combs son(s). Even though his eldest song, Tex Lawrence, is just about to become four years this summer, Luke is looking a bit of ahead. Son, someday you’ll find yourself turnin’ sixteen is the first line of the song. And he states that regardless what will happen during the next life, he hopes that he’ll get through to the me part of you. A lovely father-son track.

21. Rich Man

Rich Man is about what is really making life worth living. Or, how Combs states in the chorus, Buy your time or hold your wife and kids’ hands and that’s what makes you rich, man. You just cannot deny to these things. A very down to Earth statement of a person, who is a Rich Man in many ways nowadays.

22. A Man Was Born

The Way I Am is the title of the album. And Luke Combs told you twenty-one episodes of the way he is already. In the closing song, he is looking to troublesome, close situations. And how these situations formed him as a person. A Man Was Born thus feels like the perfect closing chapter of this storybook.

I found out fast that life’ll put you back in your place
Ready or not, man, the real world’s right in your face
When you’re down upside, it’s too late to hit them brakes
Damn near died, but a man was born that day

Luke Combs – The Way I Am – My View

Trying to kill problems with alcohol, being on stage, troublesome situations, falling in love, marriage, being a proud father – The Way I Am indeed tells you so much about the story of Luke Combs. In that way, it is a special album. What turns it into a more special listen is that the stories work for you as a listener as well. Yeah, there is alcohol, girls, cars, small town life, all the country music stereotypes, somewhere in these 73 minutes. But it feels like Luke Combs has a universal, global language. This is why people crowd big arenas and stadiums over here in Europe as well when he is calling. And this is why people will love The Way I Am as well. Luke Combs is a part of your life. No matter if you live in Nashville, in a Mid-West small town or in Germany. And this is why this album is amazing.

Favorite Song: Rich Man
