Jessica Willis Fisher has a quite interesting, even though also depressing vita. You can even read about a book about her childhood experience. On 16th May 2025, the female country artist released her sophomore album Blooming. I had a listen.

 

Jessica Willis Fisher – About The Artist

Jessica Jane Fisher (nee Willis) is a US-American singer-songwriter and fiddle artist. She is the first child of Toby and Brenda Willis and took her first steps in the music industry as part of the The Willis Clan family band. She even wrote a book about that abusive experience, named Unspeakable: Surviving My Childhood and Finding My Voice. The 13th April 1992 born artist has also been on America’s Got Talent and played in the Grand Ole Opry. In 2022, she released her debut album Brand New Day.

The nine tack album lasts 33 minutes.

1. Healing

Love is healing me now – the song starts with an easy, very melodic song. The song has good vibes and feels very modern. Blooming has a catching first listen – a very promising beginning of this record.

2. Dogwood

I read a feature about Jessica Willis Fisher that she loves dogwood trees and flowers. Thus, the song Dogwood might not be that a that surprising one. In the interview she states that even our deepest wounds can have a special kind of beauty. The song is a fine singer-songwriter song. The fiddle bridge adds a very beautiful touch to this one.

3. Build A House

With Build A House, Jessica Willis Fisher presents a rather rhythmic and pop-ish track. The previously released track comes with a nice flow and is one of my favorite tracks of the album.

4. Find A Lover

Jessica Willis Fisher has a background in bluegrass in her unfortunate younger years. If you love that style of music, Find A Lover will be a treat for you. Again, I enjoy listening to the artist and her stories. In the fiddle part, you also feel quite a strong touch of Irish music.

5. Seeds

Seeds has a rather thoughtful and even quite melancholic touch. In a very personal and touching way, she is describing how her story is still influencing her life today. How do grow when you are dangled in the weeds?, she is asking in this one. A song full of struggle and vulnerability, which is presented beautifully.

6. Honest

Even though the atmosphere is not as deeply touching as in Seeds, Honest is connecting directly to its predecessor. The song has lovely singer-songwriter qualities and is a really nice listen.

7. June

After these very deep and personal songs, the intro to the energetic blueglass song June feels even more intense. The song is very uplifting and makes you move. Especially in the context of the album, the song sends a very positive and strong message.

8. One Of A Kind

Boy, your touch is one of a kind – the eighth song is a very intimate one. The song is about struggle in trusting a person and about being suppressed in her childhood year. Jessica Willis Fisher turns this one into a lovely listen. Amazing storytelling

9. The Fox

While all the other tracks on Blooming are originals, this one is a traditional English folk song, which is especially popular in the Irish culture. Jessica enjoyed this track in her childhood years and turned it into a zesty and rhythmic bluegrass song. She makes you finish the album with a smile.

Blooming features a lovely set of songwriting. The very personal, intimate and touching style of the record makes you feel the emotions of Jessica Willis Fisher in a lovely way. A fascinating and very straight release – love it!
