  • Museum packed with cars and memorabilia
  • Cars in great condition
  • Lovely staff

The excellent reviews of Wheels of Yesteryear made me put this place on my bucket list for Myrtle Beach. I finally visited the vintage car museum during my stay there in October 2023. Here is my review from South Carolina.

Wheels of Yesteryear – Location & Admission

The museum is located North of the city and Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR), right at the US-501 highway. The museum and it large sign can be seen from the highway. Nonetheless, getting there is a bit of tricky, you somehow make it there. The area features some commercial buildings like car dealers and hotels. You have to get there by car. There is sufficient parking in front of the museum.

The museum is operating daily from 9:30 to 17:30. There are just a few closures during some holidays. Adult admission is 22 USD. You may find some discount coupons and similar deals.

Wheels of Yesteryear – The Visit

Wheels of Yesteryear is a privately driven vintage car museum. Their total stock of cars is some 150 vehicles, about 50 of them are located in the exhibition hall, which is having a main hall and smaller exhibition spaces. In January, Wheels of Yesteryear closes for a few weeks to rotate their collection. Thus, the museum might look different when you visit it. The cars are documented with basic information, so that the museum is very educative. However, reducing it to a pure car museum would definitely be too limited. Paul Cummings, the owner of the place opened in 2009, also collected a lot of memorabilia, car parts and pictures. Practically, all the walls of the museum are packed with them.

As you see in the pictures, not only the walls are packed. Wheels of Yesteryear makes perfect use of the space available. The cars are in great conditions and feature a rather wide range of eras and types of car. Of course, you cannot open or enter them, but there are quite some open windows and hoods, so that you see much more than the chassis. Thus, you also spend much more time than the size of the museum actually suggests. I spend some 90 minutes in there. If you are deeper into the topic, you might even spend more time in there.

Wheels of Yesteryear – Services

The staff at Wheels of Yesteryear was amazing. They were very helpful and also gave guidance through the collection. At the entrance, there is also a rather large gift shop with shirts, car models and many other items.

Wheels of Yesteryear – My View

Wheels of Yesterday feels a bit of freaky, but that also turns it into a memorable and excellent place to visit. There is so much stuff to explore, from small pictures and items to excellently maintained cars. If you like historic cars and are in the area, the museum is definitely worth a visit. I absolutely loved being there.
