Flyctory.com Cons

  • Rather small room

Attending a conference in the city, I had one night at the IntercityHotel Mannheim. My typical choice, the Hilton Garden Inn Mannheim (which is right opposite the same square), was simply too expansive, so that I went for that option. I was really looking forward for this new experience. Here is my review.

IntercityHotel Mannheim – Location

IntercityHotel Mannheim is located right next to the Northern edge of the main building of Mannheim Main Station. There are a lot of services around, inside and outside the station. A very nice feature is a 24 hours open automated small grocery store, which is just steps away from the hotel exit. Walking time from the lobby to the main platforms is less than five minutes.

Mannheim Main Station is one of the main nodes of the German rail network. Thus, Deutsche Bahn provides connections from there to almost any major spot in Germany, which is very handy. There are also regional and local trains, so that you can for example easily visit cities like Heidelberg from the hotel. Apart from the train station and its connections, there is also a tram station right in front of the hotel. Some of them take you rather long distance through the region. The IntercityHotel does not provide an own parking garage. However, there is a public parking garage not too far away. The rates are quite high, though, currently about 32 EUR.

IntercityHotel Mannheim – Room

I had one night in a standard room in November 2024, Monday to Tuesday. The flexible rate, including city tax, was 99.06 EUR. Breakfast was included due to my Gold Status at H-Rewards, the frequent sleeper program of Deutsche Hospitality. I got a room in the tenth floor (with the room number 834, weird thing…) with a nice view of the train station. A bit of a downside, though, that it was a bit of noisy, despite the high floor. The room felt quite compact. It did work out for a short trip, but I would not go for it with major luggage. I did really like the large number of power outlets, not only around the work desk.

Compared to the living and sleeping area, the bathroom felt rather comfortable. There are basic amenities in dispensers at the sink. The hotel also provides some additional goodies like a vanity kit. However, the shower was a bit of weak and (at least on the second highest floor), it took ages to get warm water in there. Like the whole room, the bathroom was very clean and did not come with any maintenance issues.

IntercityHotel Mannheim – Breakfast

The breakfast setup in Mannheim is a bit of weird: the buffet starts at the bar, right next to the reception, with bread and bread rolls, followed by plates, warm dishes and cold cuts and other items. The breakfast room as such is located in a room at the rear of that aisle. However, especially after my recent IntercityHotel Dubai Jaddaf Waterfront experience, I really appreciated the large selection of the buffet, which even included the good, old pancake machine. I unfortunately could not take some snaps of the room itself, as it was simply too crowded. Breakfast is served from 6:00 on weekdays and from 7:00 on the weekend, which is quite fine. The staff was very friendly and attentive as well.

IntercityHotel Mannheim – Service

The reception staff at the IntercityHotel Mannheim was very friendly and welcoming. Check-in and check-out went smoothly. The hotel does not provide a gym or similar facility. Therefore, the WiFi worked very welll – I did not explore any issues at all.

IntercityHotel Mannheim – My View

The location of the IntercityHotel Mannheim is striking. The services are good, I especially liked the breakfast. The room itself felt a bit of small, also compared to recent reviews of the brand, e.g. the IntercityHotel Bonn. Nonetheless, it is a really good place to stay in Mannheim.
