I always enjoy featuring debut releases, especially from German acts. This one is from a punk rock band from Hamburg. This Time For Real have shared their debut EP on 28th March 2028. It is called Fuck Heartbreak, I’m Over It. Here is my review.

This Time For Real – About The Artists

This Time For Real is a band from Hamburg. However, three of the band members, drummer Gerrit Skott, Bassist Philipp Ebener and guitarist Arne Thamer know each other from childhood days already. They grew up in the city of Buxtehude. The quartet is lead by singer Fee van Deelen, who pursued a solo career initially. Almost exactly a year before this EP, they released their debut single Hanging On.

This Time For Real – Fuck Heartbeat, I’m Over It – Track by Track

The six track EP lasts 21 minutes.

1. Songs About You

Unfortunately, the opener Songs About You is the only in-fact new song by This Time For Real. All other tracks have been released beforehand. The blending of the slight roughness of punk rock with some alternative rock elements strikes. It leads to a melodic, but still slightly archaic listen. I really like it.

2. Hanging On

Hanging On does have less of a punk rock track. Therefore, it feels more alternative with ticking beats. The song has a rather thoughtful and struggling character. The chorus is the catch of the second track of the EP. Nice one.

3. A Piece Of My Heart

Who do you think you are
Leaving me breathless in my apartment
Looking through these concrete walls
And I watch you drive away
Sometimes I still kinda think of you
But most nights I’m glad that we’re through

The third song is about the struggle and pain at the end of a relationship. However, it also comes to the conclusion, that it is a bitter, but good ending – I like the way it’s over now. I really like Fee van Delen’s vocal performance in here. The song is good in having her in focus during this song.

4. Don`t You Worry

Don’t You Worry reminds me of the opener Songs About You, as it also comes with a stronger punk rock vibe. On the other hand, the song has some rather emotional elements and thus has a really nice plot. The press kit names it the emotional climax of the EP – I would at least agree that it is a fascinating listen.

5. Without You

As the chorus of the fifth song starts with Fuck heartbreak, I’m over it, it is somehow the title track of the EP. Thus, it somehow connects to the opener again. The song is very melancholic, but by that also adds a really nice different flavor to the listen. It is thus a key track of the release to me.

6. Waiting

The guitar style in Waiting is close to acoustic, so that the EP closes with a rather personal and intimate touch. Again, the band is focusing on her lead singer. A really nice track, again.

This Time For Real – Fuck Heartbeat, I’m Over It – My View

I really enjoyed listening to this debut EP. However, I would have loved if This Time For Real would also dare to invest more on the instrumental side. Their asset is their lovely and versatile voice Fee van Deelen, who feels to drive this release. The range of songs is really nice and features different moods. Unfortunately, the band is finally just presenting one new track on the Fuck Heartbeat, I’m Over It release day.

Favorite Song: Without You
