In order to cover the German Athletics Nationals 2024, I needed to have a three night stay in Braunschweig. I was rather lucky to find affordable and well located accommodation in the city. Here is my review of the Premier Inn Braunschweig City Centre.

 

Premier Inn Braunschweig – Location

The Premier Inn hotel is located in three minute walking distance to the Hagenmarkt on the Northern edge of the city center. It is thus nicely located right North of the city center with a few key sights and shopping opprtunities. The area also features a grocery store North of the hotel as well as several restaurants around it.

Regarding public transport, the hotel is nicely located. Tram lines 1, 1E, 2, 3, 4 and 10 serve the Hagenmarkt, which includes connections to Braunschweig Main Station. You also do not need any transfer in order to reach the venue of the athletics events, the Eintracht Stadion. However, parts of the walk between the station and the hotel is cobble-paved, which is bothering with heavy luggage. The frequency of services, especially on weekends, cannot compete with other German cities, though South of the hotel. South of the hotel, there is also the Packhof bus stop with multiple connections. The reliability of taxis in regards of availability and pricing is really terrible, though.

 

Premier Inn Braunschweig – Room

I had a three night stay a the hotel in late June 2024. The standard double room price was 224 Euro for three nights on a flexible rate. On top of that, breakfast for all three days lead to a total invoice of 270.50 EUR. I booked the hotel rather early. However, there might have still been a certain price add-on due to the sports event. The hotel was fully booked, including hosting delegates of the German Athletics associations and some sports teams participating there.

Apart from having an additional bed (which I hadn’t booked), I was really pleased with the room at the Premier Inn Braunschweig City Centre. It absolutely fulfilled my key needs – a bed, a large work desk and a sufficient number of power plugs – apart from the location ones. The room was also rather quiet, you just heard little from people on the floor or adjacent rooms

In line with that, the bathroom was clean and spacious. The shower bathroom featured basic amenity needs in dispensers. The North American style fixed shower was a bit of bothering, though. The hotel is rather new. Thus, it might have been not too surprising that I did not spot any maintenance issues.

 

Premier Inn Braunschweig – Breakfast

Especially if you frequently visit the British spots of Premier Inn, you may either love the reliability of items – or feel a certain boredom about the selection. The large buffet at the Premier Inn Braunschweig majorly located in a separate room outside the breakfast area definitely did its best to fight against that. The selection of cold and warm items was definitely more than I would expect from a hotel of that branch. There were also multiple vegan options, a nice range of cold cuts and a good selection of bread. Despite the hotel was fully booked ,they managed to maintain the buffet very well overall.

 

Premier Inn Braunschweig – Service

The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Due to the major volume of photo data I needed, I went for their ultimate WiFi. However, even the standard connection worked out rather well (which I used for some other reasons).

 

Premier Inn Braunschweig – My View

The Premier Inn Braunschweig City Centre gave me reliable accommodation with good services in a good location. Accordingly, it absolutely fulfilled my needs. I was struggling with the rather average local transport in the city as well as the poor taxi services. Thus, I might go for another locations in case there is another sports event in town. Obviously, these reasons are out of the hotel’s control and do not influence my rating.
