  • Nice, wide range of songs
  • Nice storytelling

Grace Potter is a three times Grammy Award nominee. Her most recent major release is dated as of 2023. On 21st August 2026, however, she shared Trespasser. Here is my review.

Grace Potter – About The Artist

Grace Evelyn Potter is a US-American artist, who was born in Waitsfield, Vermont, on 20th June 1983. As her original band project could only find a rehearsal space, she named her project Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. Part of that project was drummer Matt Burr, they were married from 2013 to 2015. The band disbanded with the divorce and Potter went solo. However, the producer of Midnight (2015), her first solo album, was Eric Valentine. She married him in 2017. Her most recent album is the 2023 Mother Road. Alongside Kenny Chesney, she topped the US Country charts with Wild Child.

Grace Potter – Trespasser – Track by Track

The ten track album lasts 39 minutes.

1. Main Street U.S.A.

In it’s first song, Trespasser takes you to the Main Street U.S.A.. The song is a rhythmic rock track, which has a a groovy blues rock touch. There is fun from the very beginning, the backing vocals add a nice touch to the listen as well. Definitely a nice track.

2. Ride Or Die

In the second song, Grace Potters asks Ride Or Die. The key driver is the pumping rhythm. The opening song had slight Easy Rider vibes – this one has some motorcycle sounds. However, the present rhythm even leads to a slight pop touch. The song has a very exciting sound and – again – works with the smart use of backing singers.

3. Love Me Not

Love Me Not is one of three songs of the album, which Potter already shared before the Trespasser release. After the rocking, exciting beginning, there is a much stronger emotional and gentle touch at the beginning. However, the song also has some rather speedy sections, which lead to quite some contrast. Love Me Not is a very interesting, versatile composition.

4. Gasoline

After listening to the first three songs, Gasoline has an almost melancholic touch. The more you listen to the track, the more you appreciate the personal storytelling and the bluesy and soulful vocal performance. Potter is simply lovely in creating this kind of intense atmosphere.

5. Run Baby Run

The motorcycle sound is back and opens for the fifth song, Run Baby Run. To me, this is the core track of the album, combining this road trip rock style with a very catching and melodic chorus. Thumbs up!

6. Lost Cafe

Lost Cafe is a powerful, even a bit of angry rocker. Again, Potter works with a rather stomping rhythm at its first half. However, it later also uses synth and electronic elements, which kicks the song into a very different direction.

7. Trespasser

From Lost Cafe, there is a rather fluent transition to the slow start of the title track. The song is another core track of the album, delivering a mysterious, dark, frightening sound. The focus is on Grace Potter and her vocal storytelling, even when the instruments join in stronger in later parts.

8. The Voice

The beginning of The Voice is characterized by a monotonous bass line and a not that more exciting vocal part. It takes about 1:20 minutes, before the vocal side  develops a more melodic side as well. However, towards the end of the song, it falls back to its original structure, leading to a very intense listen.

9. War On The Mountain

War On The Mountain takes a slower start as well. However, the 5:38 minute epic is a lovely listen presenting a very nice synergy of lyrics and atmospheric instrumental performance. It’s absolutely worth listening to the full song which presents some really stunning breaks and twists.

10. Belong

The chucker-out Belong is the third song on Trespasser, which has already been released.before the album. The song presents a five minute melodic listen with one of the most present vocal performances of the album. Nice one!

Grace Potter – Trespasser – My View

Well done, Grace Potter. Trespasser is a really versatile, lovely album with complex, but still nice to listen songs. From Americana to soul influences, from rather happy mood, pop-ish tracks, to epic theatrical songs – Trespasser has it all in stock. And thus, I appreciate it.

Favorite Song: Walk On The Mountain
