Mary And The Sharks – About The Artists

Mary And The Sharks is the music project by Mary Jensen. The Hamburg-origin artist studied at the Pop Academy in Mannheim and lives in Berlin since 2017. In 2020 and 2022, she had two quite successful song releases in collaborations. Together with LUNAX, she released Safe & Sound and Let’s Call It Love. Both songs almost reached 20 million Spotify streams each. Her first song as Mary And The Sharks, the 2019 Heavy Head, has been released before that, though. She added some more single releases in 2022 and 2023, before she started to share songs, which are part of this EP.

Mary And The Sharks – Prophecy – Track by Track

The four song EP lasts 11 minutes.

1. Prophecy

In the Songs of the Week episode I mentioned above, I called this song A nice mixture of indie-rock and alt-pop elements. I still feel that Prophecy has a really nice style. Mary Jensen’s voice feels to fit to the atmosphere of the song perfectly.

2. Blink of An Eye

Blink of An Eye nicely connects to the title track. The atmosphere of the second track is a deeper and darker than the one of the song before, though. Overall, the song has a stronger pop flavor. Overall, it works really well.

3. Better Days

Apart from ProphecyBetter Days has been the only song shared before. The third track is a real short one, just lasting 2:21 minute. However, it strongly defines an impressing atmosphere, which alters between darker and more happy parts. I like it.

4. Jump the Gun

Mary And The Sharks debut EP closes after just four songs with Jump The Gun. The song features nice synth elements and, partially, quite some reverb. Towards the end, the chucker-out becomes very rocking and even feels a bit of psychedelic.

I just wanna run
take a leap into the sun
Watch me come undone
Yeah I’m gonna jump the gun
I’m gonna jump the…
oh oh oh oh
I’m gonna jump the…

Mary And The Sharks – Prophecy – My View

Mary Jensen and her Mary And The Sharks define their own, characteristic and special sound with her debut EP. I would have loved to have one or two more songs to explore a broader bandwidth of the artist’s music. This four song appetizer feels promising.

Favorite Song: Blink of An Eye
