Swiss Cup Finals 2025 (Women): Piranha Chur – Kloten-Dietlikon Jets 8-4 (2-2, 2-1, 4-1)

The ladies again: after the two Ligacup finals have been held, Sporthalle Wankdorf was transformed into the cozy normal field atmosphere, hosting the Mobiliar Unihockey Cup. In the first match of the day in the afternoon of 22nd February 2025, Piranha Chur faced the Kloten-Dietlikon Jets. A very interesting match from a German perspective, as former SSF Dragons Bonn player Elena Bröker was part of the Chur line-up. Here is my full match report.

Piranha Chur – Kloten-Dietlikon Jets – Match Report

In front of 2,337 spectators, the Jets had the better start. Not only that they controlled the match in the beginning, they were also awarded by the first goal of the match by Genthiana Behluli after just 81 seconds. However, Piranha did not feel too impressed by that and kept on with their match plan. They stood very solid in their defense and consistently managed to launch attacks by themselves. In the eleventh minute, Nicole Capatt tied the score after a precise pass from Sofia Joelsson, by Chiara Bertini gave the Kloten-Dietlikon the lead again about a minute later. Chur survived a short-handed situation towards the end of the quarter. With 16 seconds left to play in the first period, Joelsson and Capatt were again in focus. Piranha’s Swedish top-scorer again had an amazing free hit assist which her teammate converted from short distance.

Piranha hits the Jets on the Break

After 25 minutes, Chur took the lead for the first time. Annina Faisst intercepted a pass of the opponents, launching a fast break and scored the third goal of her team. The Jets felt being superior, but Chur read their game well, so that they finally even had more shots in the match. Their fourth goal in the 34th minute was another fast attack, this time converted by Eliska Trojankova. However, with 87 seconds left, the favorite Jet closed up the score after Piranha felt to have more momentum. Nina Metzger’s goal finished a beautifully played attack and gave her team hope to grab the golden medals at the end of the match.

Chur marches for the Victory

At he beginning of the third period, two of the Nordic players made it to the scorer list. First, Sofia Joelsson gave Chur the two goal lead again with a shot from the slot right underneath the corssbar, assisted by Capatt from the face-off spot (44th). The referees took the video review to confirm the goal. Just roughly two minutes later, Finnish Piispa scored her first goal of the day. She tipped in the rebound after Angelina Juon could not control a Bertini shot. However, in the 48th minute, it took Chur just two passes to bring the ball from the own defense into net behind Swiss National Team goalie Livia Werz. Trojankova was goal scorer the second time on that afternoon.

The Kloten-Dietlikon Jets felt angry now, pressing for another closing up the score. However, Chur played smart in defense, feeling well-prepared for the attacks of Rolf Kern’s team. The orange-dressed teams sometimes just could use clearance shots to relief the pressure. However, Piranha was brutal in taking profit of inaccuracies of the favorite team. With slightly more than six minutes to play, Annina Faisst took the ballfrom Noomi Überschlag, launching another fast break, which was finally converted by Rahel Wyss. In the 56th minute, the Jets pulled Werz for the first time. The clock ticked down. In the final minute Soraya Gansner went for the empty netter from behind her own goal. The ball just hit the post, chased by Kloten-Dietlikon’s Marcia Wick. The Jets player thereby knocked down the goalcage. Wyss acted smart, shooting the ball between the goal cage marks and by that destroying any Jets’ hopes for a comeback.

Piranha Chur – Kloten-Dietlikon Jets – My View of the Match

Piranha Chur acted smart in this cup final battle. Marco Torri and his coaching staff felt to have prepared the team precisely. Their fast breaks were cruel for the opponents, who also struggled with the energetic and committed defense. From a German perspective, it was of course very pleasing to see Elena Bröker with the cup and the golden medal at the end of a very interesting and dynamic floorball match.
