Quite an intense time is lying ahead. As you see in my preview post about it, I am already preparing the Country To Country 2025 in Berlin. This weekend, I am at the Swiss Floorball Cup Finals. Before the country festival, I am heading to Pittsburgh to see my beloved Pittsburgh Penguins three times. There might be some delays and weird publishing times due to that in the next week. This all does not impact my new song selection for this week – which kicks off very rocking this time.
Luke Spiller – The Ending Is Always The Same
I already featured two albums by the British band The Struts, Pretty Vicious (2023) and Strange Days (2020). Their singer Luke Spiller is doing some solo music. His sophomore release The Ending Is Always The Same si a lovely rock track with retro attitude. My favorite this week.
Smash Into Pieces – Man or Machine
The Swedish rock band is a frequent part of my Songs of the Week posting. This week, they released the song Man or Machine. I really love it.
Royale Lynn – Battleground
Royale Lynn is more and more diverting from country music and heads into hard rock She is doing great in that. The new single by the Canadian artist is another rocking treat.
A Day To Remember – Make It Make Sense
Post hardcore from the United States – A Day To Remember are ready to play major festivals around the world. In Germany, they will, among others, be at the prestigious Rock am Ring festival. This week, they presented a new single release. I am sure they will share it on stage as well.
Smith / Kotzen – Black Light
Adrian Smith and Richie Kotzen do it again. I already reviewed their album Smith / Kotzen in 2021. Now the rock duo is back with a new single. I love it.
Feuerschwanz – Knightclub
The German power metal band currently compete in the German preliminary rounds to represent their country at the Europvision Song Contest. This week, they released their new song Knightclub. A cool rocker with Medieval folk influence, which has been recorded with Dag-Alexis Kopplin from the band SDP.
Perlregen – Gegen Hass
Political issues everywhere: in Germany, the parliament elections take place on Sunday. The fight for votes is comparably intense, especially as there is likely a strong right wing presence. Thus, there are quite a lot of songs against hate as well – like this one by Perlregen from Saarbrücken. I liked it.
Santiano – Da braut sich was zusammen
The German shanty-folk-rock band Santiano have become one of the major players in the domestic music scene with their characteristic sound. Da braut sich was zusammen is a comparably political song. Mein Freund, ich habe große Angst vor dem was da noch kommt – “My friend, I am very frightened about what is ahead”. A very intense listen.
Max Giesinger – Butterfly Effect
From deep and social-critic songs to easier pop from my home country. Max Giesinger released Butterfly Effect this week. A melodic and nice listen with a great catch.
Matt Simons – The Butterfly Effect
I just had to put these songs one after another. This second song about The Butterfly Effect is by Matt Simons from Palo Alto, though. And it comes with a fine singer-songwriter sound. I love it.
SYLVR – Applaus
You don’t know SYLVR? That’s no shame – the Dutch artist is releasing her first song under this artist name. If you follow Flyctory.com for a longer time, though, you will know Sylvia Aimee. She is an amazing country music artist and is one of the ten most frequently featured artists in my Country Music Playlists. I also had a Spotlight interview with her about her 2023 EP Identity. Good luck for your Nederpop career, SYLVR!
Andy Bell – Don’t Cha Know
Erasure member Andy Bell is doing solo music again. The sound is not too far away from his band project with Vince Clark. This leads to a beautiful synth-pop sound.
Sophie and the Giants – Red Light
Sophie and the Giants is the artist name of Sophie Louise Scott. The sound of her new song Red Light reminds me of 1990’s pop. After she has just one EP so far, the British artist announced a “mini album” and a headline tour for 2025. The exact dates will be released soon.
Selena Gomez, Benny Blanco, Gracie Abrams – Call Me When You Break Up
From retro style sounds to modern pop music: Selena Gomez asks to Call Me When You Break Up this week. A really catching song by the Texas artist, which she produced together with her fiance Benny Blanco and Gracie Abrams.
