Big names and emerging artists – I love to cover the full range of musicians in my Spotlight interviews. This time, I am focusing on an emerging band from Germany, Black and Pink Roses. I was delighted to have a chat with her singer Stefanie in this interview.
Spotlight – Flyctory.com meets Stefanie from Black and Pink Roses
FLYC: Let’s start with an easy question: Stefanie, tell us a bit about yourself, please.
Stefanie: Hi, thanks a lot for the interview. I am Stefanie, 36 years old and live close to the small beautiful town of Bad Kreuznach in Rheinland-Palatinate in Germany.
FLYC: What does music mean to you?
Stefanie: I love music. With music, you can dream. It can remind you of special, bygone time, can it can make you dance and mentally frees you.
FLYC: Your Spotify account states Singer and Songwriter since youth. How did your musical career develop?
Stefanie: When I was about five years old, I always watched the Mini Playback Show and danced to it with a small microphone wearing red patent shoes. Later, when I was about 15 years old, I discovered my love to write music. I had a Sony cassette recorder, which allowed me to record myself. Whenever I had a little melody in my head, I just sang it and thought it might turn into a song one day. I also wrote lyrics during this time.
My mother, who is an organist, taught me to play the piano. Thanks to her, I was able later to compose my melodies further and write down the notes to fix the ideas.
2007, I got to learn one of our bandmates, Jens. He already had a small music studio at home. Together with him, I recorded and sung my ideas.
2023, I met another of the band’s members, Tobias. He inspired me producing music by myself. We share this passion until today and frequently develop new ideas together. There is also a small web radio, which loves our music. We are incredibly happy about it, as it gives us the opportunity to reach a wider audience.
In 2025, I have recorded the first five songs professionally in a studio in Ludwigshafen. You can listen to them on the current EP, Because of You.
FLYC: Have there been any artists who impressed and influenced you?
Stefanie: I have always been impressed by Madonna. She is an amazing artist, many of her songs still touch me until today.
FLYC: Our chat is majorly about your role as a singer of Black and Pink Roses. Has it been your first band? What did you do before on the musical side?
Stefanie: Yeah, Black and Pink Roses is my first – and hopefully my last – band 🙂 Just kidding – I get around with all our band members so well that I don’t want to change it any more. But we can definitely go many more ways together. As I love singing as much as I love writing, I was part of a small choir at school during my teenage years. Furthermore, I improved my piano skills with my mother.
FLYC: Let’s get to learn a bit about Black and Pink Roses. Who is doing music with you?
Stefanie: There are three other band members. Andreas is an excellent guitarist and improvisator, who is also delivering a major part of the many songs. He also loves composing and producing music and majorly responsible for the rocking part of the Black and Pink Roses songs. Tobias is rather the EDM lover. He loves it to do music in the background and does not want to be in focus that much. Jens is another guitarist and composer, who also rather likes being in the background.
FLYC: How would you describe the style of your music?
Stefanie: I think that our music is heading towards a dreaming rock–pop style. But it also contains electronic music sounds and melancholic piano melodies.
You recently released the EP Because of You. It also includes two 2007 live recordings. Could you sum up the history of Black And Pink Roses?
Stefanie: When I ran into Jens in 2007, we recorded music with instruments together for the first time, especially driven by his amazing guitar play. That also included these two live versions, just as doing music was so much fun. I feel that sometime you just have to make music and singing just for the sake of that. That’s what we wanted to illustrate with the two live versions.
FLYC: Does the EP Because of You come with a special story or message?
Stefanie: The EP Because of You was formed during the time when I ran into my first big love. Thus, the song Because of You has also been written for that man. Even though we are not in a relation any more, I still like to think back to our time. These days simply deserve a special memory.
FLYC: Do you have a favorite track on your new release? And why?
Stefanie: My favorite song is simply I believe. This song reflects our attitude towards other people very well. It shall show that you should always look behind the facade of a person. Everybody has his own story and learning about this story makes us really learn about that person. We should be open-minded to meet other people – as only with other people we can explore ourselves completely.
FLYC: What are your plans with the band in 2025? Will there be additional releases or a tour?
Stefanie: We just want to improve our presence. Music needs to be listened to make a difference in other people. We are simple people next door, who love to do music. If we can reach other people, that’s even better.
We are currently not planning a tour, but there will definitely be new releases in the future. The ideas will emerge over time spontaneously.
FLYC: Finally – would there be any stage or festival you would personally like to play with your band one day?
Stefanie: There is no special event I would like to play. However, anybody who would like to invite us before his major show is definitely welcome :).
