The BossHoss (1st October 2025, Cologne)

Late summer 2025 was somehow The BossHoss time on Flyctory.com. After having a great and intense interview with Sascha Hoss Power Vollmer about their new album Back To The Boots and finally being able to review it, I was able to see it live on stage on 1st October 2025. The Back To The Boots club tour made it to the Live Music Hall in Cologne. I was really curious about how the great album would work out in a – in typircal relations of the German band – rather small venue live on stage. Here is my report.

Live Music Hall – About The Venue

The Live Music Hall is a some 1,500 people venue in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. Despite it is located in a former commercial area, parking is tricky. However, the area has some improvement in that regard, including a paid parking next to the Helios37 nearby. The easiest way to get there is by public transport. The regional train station Cologne-Ehrenfeld is a some five to ten minute walk away. The tram/underground lines 3, 4, 13, and 18 serve the stop Venloer Straße / Gürtel, which is about the same distance.

The BossHoss – About The Artists

The BossHoss is a German septet, which has been formed in 2004 in Berlin. They did have previous projects before. The band is doing country-inspired rock and pop songs. Their debut album Internashville Urban Hymns (2005) was an absolute surprise and almost managed to hit the German Top 10. At that time, the most popular songs were country-alike covers of pop songs, but the band’s portfolio widened significantly. Many of their most successful tracks, including the 2011 triple-golden record Don’t Gimme That, are originals. You can learn about their story in my interview.

Spotlight – Flyctory.com meets Sascha “Hoss Power” Vollmer of The BossHoss (August 2025)

The two most famous faces of The BossHoss are Alec Boss Burns Völkel (vocals) and Sascha Hoss Power Vollmer (vocals, guitar), who are both founding members of the band. Since 2007, there has not been a single lineup change among the Germans. Back To The Boots has been released on 17th September 2025. At that time, the club tour has been sold out. The band will be on a major venue tour in summer 2026 again.

The BossHoss – The Show

The show started with a support act, which has not been announced. The lines before the venue were massive, so that a significant proportion of the visitors just got a fraction of the band’s set anyway. Furthermore the Live Music Hall had to struggle with a weird distribution of spectators. While at the front the arena there was sufficient space, the rear was extremely packed and quite a proportion of people could not see the stage at all – I never saw that in the Live Music Hall before. It also lead to the situation that many people could not access the bar any more.

The BossHoss stepped on stage for their two hour show at 20:30. After an intro part, they started with two Back To The Boots Tracks, the Willie Nelson cover On The Road Again and Lions Den. With the next songs Do It and Hey Ya, they already indicated that the evening will also be a tour through the musical history of the band as well. At Hey Ya and the following I’ll Be Back, the band was chanting with the artists. Later, Sascha and Alec even went into the audience (which still felt weird, as the rear of the venue was still absolutely blocked and the Live Music Hall thus felt massively over-sold from there).

The second half of the show featured songs like the title track of their anniversary album, Back To The Boots, but also songs like the Dolly Parton cover Jolene. Cologne illuminated their arena with the lights of their cell phone to that country music classic. Before the three song encore, they closed the main set with two of their greatest songs, Don’t Gimme That and Dos Bros.

The BossHoss – My View

It’s a shame that there have been some crowd management and organisational issues with the show in Cologne. This also included that the bar outside the venue was closed with the main act stepping on stage. The Berlin guys gave a powerful show and had a great party in Cologne. I am sure their tour will be amazing on the remaining club tour – and look forward to their summer 2026 shows.
