SB-Pro – EräViikingit 1-0 (0-0, 1-0, 0-0)

Of course, the Men’s F-Liiga match between Classic and JYMY was somehow the highlight of my November 2025 trip to Finland. However, the very last of five matches within 24 hours was special to me. It’s been quite a while since I have been to Nurmijärvi’s Arkadia-Halli – and thus, visiting a home match of SB-Pro. In the Women’s F-Liiga, they faced one of the clubs I likely have seen most frequently in the Nordic country, EräViikingit. Apart from these two teams, TPS and Classic fought a close battle for the top of the table so far, so that a victory on this 22nd November 2025 might be even a bit more valuable. Here is my match report.

This posting comes with a section of 470 major size pictures in the sports galleries

SB-Pro – EräViikingit – Match Report

You could feel the respect both had for their opponents from the very first minute. The teams acted defensively and tried to seize a mistake on the opposite side. Nothing illustrated that better than the first three minutes in Nurmijärvi. Apart from five to ten seconds, EräViikingit held the ball the entire time. Dominance? Not at all. Most of the time, the ball was in their half. Nonetheless, the “Wikings” were a bit more active and also had eight shots in the first period (compared to four for SB-Pro). However, there were few really memorable attacks. At least, there was a bit more action after the power break. With 23 seconds left on the first period’s clock, Natalie Sandström weakened her team with a bench penalty. There was no score in the first period, though.

Aada Isometsä breaks the Curse

SB-Pro had more than 90 seconds left in power play at the beginning of the second period, but Erä was as disciplined as the home team. The match went on and on and became more active. In the 30th minute, Elsi Kangasharju had a great save against a fast break driven by the Hietamäki sisters and Elina Kujala. However, there were just six shots on goal altogether in the second period, which illustrates the defensive disciple and strong blocks by both teams.

With that score, the match more and more became a “goalie game” with the netminders in focus. Finally, it was SB-Pro’s third row how managed the crowd to cheer loudly the first time. Jenni Rautanen passed the ball to ring wing forward Aada Isometsä, who went for a direct snipe and gave the hosts the lead.

The Viikingit pushed for the Comeback

It was clear that after that only goal after forty minutes, the guests had to open up at a certain point in time. The first time emotions went up in the third period was after five minute. After a duel with an EräViikingit forward, Annika Hautojärvi was pushed onto the goal frame with a head injury. SB-Pro complained that the referees did not stop play immediately. Hautojärvi was back in the rink after a few minutes, though.

More and more Emmi Pölönen got into the focus of the spectators. The hosts’ goalie had some really nice saves and made EräViikingit struggle abroad. Time was ticking down – and the Isometsä goal was still the only one on the board. Just when the guests felt to more and more push SB-Pro back into defense, they went for the time-out at five minutes left to play. They did pull Kangasharju in the last 80 seconds only, though. Even though Nurmijärvi lost Kujala with a knee injury in the very last moments of the match, their defense was too strong that day – and the people in Arkadia-Halli saw a rare one goal victory on that Saturday afternoon.

SB-Pro – EräViikingit – My View of the Match

You don’t see one goal matches that often in floorball. This match was one of them. On the one hand, the score underlines the brave fight and disciplined defensive work both teams showed on that day. On the other hand, this very tactical interpretation of floorball, which the match especially had in the first period, also takes quite a lot of match time. After a less attractive beginning, the people in Nurmijärvi saw a catching floorball thriller – with a happy ending for their team.
