Flyctory.com Pros

  • Great overview of Las Vegas with many hints and facts
  • Residential area with Siegfried & Roy Palace
  • Meeting Rene Meinert in person (and reading his book thereafter)

During the last twelve years, I easily had something like fifteen to twenty nights in Las Vegas. Nonetheless, I was really curious how it is like to explore the city from a different viewpoint and get some new ideas. Additionally, I was absolutely curious how it will be to meet Rene Meinert. The German living in Sin City has become quite famous in German media. Among other types of business, he founded Treasure Tours of Nevada, the only tour operator in the US state which is licensed to run sightseeing tours in German. Nonetheless, Flyctory.com stays in English – here is my review of the sightseeing tour.

About Rene Meinert / Treasure Tours of Nevada

Rene Meinert is a true self-made millionaire. He grew up in Berlin and worked in different kinds of business. During a trip to Las Vegas, he found out that electronics tended to be cheaper there than in his home country. This became his first major business and he imported electronics to Germany, partially by flying overseas with a bunch of money and shipping the good back to Berlin.

Even though having a comparably low graduation in German school’s, Meinert’s excellent sense for business opportunities allowed him to move to Nevada finally. He made use of the financial crisis and the low estate prices – and his houses multiplied their value within a rather short time frame. He nowadays runs multiple companies, including consultancy for creating companies, real estate and selling the characteristic room fragrances of the Las Vegas casino hotels. You can read about his life in his biography, which is subtitled Nicht quatschen… Sondern machen (“Don’t talk, but do it”).

Exclusive City Tour – Booking & The Tour

Treasure Tours of Nevada is offering several tours in and around Las Vegas. The likely most popular and famous ones are likely the Las Vegas City Tour (which I did), helicopter rides, trips to the Hoover Dam, the Ghost Town Nelson, and a tour to Area 51. Typically, these tours are scheduled in a group and are lead by German guides (not necessarily Rene himself). You can book these tours as VIP Tours, which means that you it is only your party and you are also met at your hotel and not at a central meeting tour. If you want to be sure that you do the tour with Rene, the Exclusive Tour is the right option.

You typically send a request online, the details are clarified via mail, phone or WhatsApp. You either pre-pay or pay at the tour. I had the Las Vegas City Tour on a Friday in June 2025. Originally scheduled for 10:00, we short-notice agreed on that we kick off at 8:00 due to the heat in Nevada at that time, which I was very happy about. The car is was the Kia you see in the picture above, which would have been very comfortable for larger parties as well. The City Tour in a group would have been 84 USD per person (tax included). In the VIP version, the tour is 290 USD (incl. two persons, 85 USD per person on top of that). I paid 375 USD for the Exclusive tour (again, price for two participants). There are no tours in English or another language.

Exclusive City Tour – The Tour

Rene was at my hotel, which was a bit remote from city center (Homewood Suites Las Vegas Airport). My report of the tour is in chronological order. You can choose between being driven back to the hotel or, for example, leave at the Las Vegas Strip and do some sightseeing.

Downtown Las Vegas

With the hotel being in the South of Las Vegas, we first headed up the I-15 towards Downtown Las Vegas. Already during the drive, Rene presented a couple of interesting facts about the city. In Downtown Las Vegas. This is the historic part of the city, where Las Vegas started to grow and I learned quite a bit about the gold rush times, why Nevada legalized gambling how the transformation took place. The tour is not a sightseeing tour in a way that you stop and on many places and briefly explore the sights. Rene’s philosophy is rather to inspire you how to spend your remaining time in the city. Thereby, he very frequently shows pictures of the sights in the hotel and other places. There are also recommendations regarding museums, sights and also cheap eats. In that area, we also passed Fremont Street or The Mob Museum and chatted about the huge gold nugget at the Golden Nugget.

Especially in this part of the tour, Rene and I discussed a lot about different social systems between Germany and the US and other reasons, why he decided to finally move to the United States. Heading Southbound to the Southern part of the Las Vegas Boulevard, Rene also introduced me to some of the wedding chapels and the celebrities who had married there. One of the rather obscure sights in Las Vegas is Bonanza Gift, the world largest gift store. In regards of practical advice, I learned that you can buy pre-used casino playing cards there or – simply – where to park for free at and around these attractions. You also learn a lot about the resorts along the strip – starting from their sheer size, construction costs or key attractions. Here and there, we also chatted about failed plans and constructions.

The Southern Part of the Strip

We more and more approached the section of the Las Vegas Boulevard (or Strip), which hosts the most famous casino hotels. Apart from generally speaking about the hotels and their attractions, we had a brief look into the access drives of the Bellagio and the Venetian. Especially in that part, I learned a lot about the different hotels, but also how massively they invest in creating a posh atmosphere. One thing Rene pointed out very often, not only in that part of the tour, was the cleanliness and maintenance of the places. This part of the tour indeed reminded me of Dubai very strongly. A key difference between the two mega-entertainment cities is, though, that Las Vegas is significantly more concentrated and compact. Rene overall gives you a lot of practical advice for your Vegas trip – including things like how to take the best pictures of the Bellagio Fountain show.

The Southern section of this part of the tour included casinos like the Excalibur or the Luxor. It is also amazing how much the city is changing. I had been in Las Vegas at the end of 2023 before that. The Mirage is about to be turned into a Hard Rock Casino, the Tropicana has turned down in the meantime. And there are also smaller spots like the Little Church of the West. The wedding chapel is one of Las Vegas’ most traditional places of that kind. While the building stayed the same, it had to be moved a couple of times already. Facts like this and the insights of a residents are key facts why a tour with Rene is valuable, even if you have been in the city before.

German Legends in Nevada and Residences

During the tour, Rene stated a few times that German visitors tend to be fascinated by Las Vegas, but on the other hand feel that the city is too loud and vibrant to live there. Thus, I felt that it was very important to him to introduce people into the residential areas, where the people are in fact living. The first stop on this part of the tour, where we in fact also stepped out, was a place which is likely out of reach for many people. We stopped by the former residence of the famous German magicians Siegfried & Roy. Rene told how Siegfried frequently came out of his palace, time permitting, when one of the tours stopped, chatting with the people and even doing a short magical trick with them. The place might soon be turned into a museum.

The tout took us to Summerlin. Not only Rene himself lives there (we came quite close to his residence, but also celebrities like Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi). Even though their address is typically public, they live in gated communities with high security standards preventing people to in fact access these places. The high level of maintenance is impressing. The communities also offer services like beaches, pools or sports facilities. We also passed an area especially adopted to the needs of elder residents, e.g. with the necessary services nearby, but also golf courses integrated into the planning. This part was really interesting and tempting, as the prices are lower than I would have expected. The tour ended at the hills of Summerlin with an amazing view over the Strip, before Rene brought me back to the hotel.

Exclusive City Tour – Service

Rene is very experienced in these kind of tours. Thus, the tour felt perfect. He could also answer all of my questions, even if they were outside the box. Cooled water is provided during the tour. Longer Treasure Tours of Nevada trips may also include a lunch snack. If you book an exclusive tour, you also receive a copy of Rene Meinert’s biography.

Exclusive City Tour with Rene Meinert – My View

I was absolutely nervous and curious about this experience. Already in his YouTube videos, I learned a lot about the “real” Las Vegas life as a resident. In the tour, Rene does a great job strengthening this idea. I have to say that these three hours absolutely changed my attitude towards Las Vegas and life there. That is maybe more than you can expect from a sightseeing trip. Especially his approach towards rather pointing out places which you then can pick later and visit in a way you like it is very sensible to me. I had a great time and still reflect about the experience, a couple of days afterwards. Thus, I absolutely loved this experience.
