It’s less than two weeks until I see Jessica Lynn live on stage again. Towards the end of the year, she is doing her traditional holiday shows in the United States, named A Very Merry Classic Christmas. Under the same name, she released a four track live EP, based on the 2023 shows. I just had to have a listen to cheer me up for the upcoming experience. And, by the way, the listen is for a good cause – all proceedings of this EP are donated to the charity Toys For Tods.

 

Jessica Lynn – About The Artist

Jessica Lynn is one of my Featured Artists. The 1990 Brooklyn-born artist has established in the US American as well as in the European country music scene. A key feature of her shows is that her band consists of her husband, her parents, as well as a close friend. In January 2025, Jessica Lynn will release the country music album All I Own.

 

Jessica Lynn – A Very Merry Classic Christmas (Live) – Track by Track

The four track EP lasts 15 minutes.

1. Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree

The album starts with a rather classic and straight interpretation of this Santa classic. The country music heart of Jessica Lynn is not too present in here and there are some sing-a-longs with the audience. The saxophone leads to a nice touch in her version, though.

2. Little Drummer Boy

I have to admit that I am not a big fan of Little Drummer Boy. With almost five minutes, this song is the longest one on the EP. The song is a very slow version of the track with a strong presence of drumming and percussion. However, her husband Steve Sterlacci on the guitar has some scattered presence as well. Overall, it is a nice, dreaming version of this song.

3. Santa You Can Skip Our House

You don’t know that one yet? It is indeed a Jessica Lynn original. Jessica released this one in 2018 already (on my birthday 🙂 ), so that this one is the only song on this EP, which is available in a studio version by her as well. The saxophone plays a key instrumental part, but there are also some jingle bell sounds as well as country vibes. As there is no sing-a-long and audience interaction in this song (apart from the applause at the end), it feels close to a studio recording.

4. Run Run Rudolph

In her 2023 setlist, this one was the chucker-out of Jessica’s A Very Merry Classic Christmas shows. It is also the closing track of her EP release – and you can feel the party in here. If you watch the 2023 full show video (in the bio), you see the people and dancing and having fun. I can fully relate to that – a cool and fun holiday classic interpreted in a very energetic version.

Jessica Lynn – A Very Merry Classic Christmas (Live) – My View

I am not a big fan of live recordings. However, these four songs (and having a look into the 2023 video) made me really look forward to my trip to Pennsylvania in early December. And it raises the Christmas feeling in me. Jessica Lynn is magical – even if she is Santa’s angel and not doing country and country rock.
