Sugarland is back! The country music duo released a four track EP on 9th August 2024, with all new songs. As I am quite busy with the Olympic Games, this felt like the perfect music release snack for that weekend. I had a listen.

 

Sugarland – About The Artists

Sugarland is the duo project of Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles. Nettles is majorly concentrating on the vocals, while Kristian Bush is typically also playing the guitar or the mandoline. They have been founded in 2002 in Atlanta and went on a hiatus twice. Their first break was between 2012 and 2017. There Goes The Neighborbood defines the end of the second hiatus, starting in 2020. In the early days, the band was a trio, including guitarist Kristen Hall. Sugarland won two Grammy Awards (in 2009) and several other awards. They overall released six albums, the last being Bigger in 2018. None of them has placed worse than third in the US Country Charts. Nettles and Bush also had five singles topping the genre-specific charts in their home country.

The four track album lasts 14 minutes.

1. There Goes The Neighborhood

The comeback EP starts with its title track. The song has a strong groove and a bit of a darker feeling, which leads to a touch of soul music in the stanzas. The chorus, however, reliefs a straight country music feeling.

2. Temporary Feeling

Temporary Feeling is stronger in the rhythm than the opener, the groove rather has a touch of blues. The song has some nice summer vibes and feels like a great dance track for your upcoming party.

3. Georgia Is Yours

The third track focuses on the voice of Jennifer Nettles and the accompanying piano. The song is a beautiful ballad, which adds a lovely emotional touch to the EP.

4. Get Your Hopes Up

There Goes The Neighborhood closes with an energetic song. Get Your Hopes Up is rather in the mid-tempo range, but the stomping rhythm and the groovy style adds a nice touch.

Yeah, it is just a set of four tracks. But all of them are new and they come with a nice, wide range of sounds. Glad to have these guys back in the country music business scene – they definitely do their comeback in style.
