It’s time for another edition of my Food I Had Onboard. In January and February 2026, I did not fly as much as in December 2025 – but there are some quite interesting experiences in it. Enjoy my inflight service and food review.
2nd January 2026, Lufthansa LH 73, Dusseldorf (DUS) – Frankfurt (FRA), Business Class
My first flights of the year brought me to Sweden for some SSL matches. Again, I had to take the early morning short hop from Dusseldorf (DUS) to Frankfurt (FRA). Due to snowfall, the captain announced that we will have a some twenty minute delay on the ground. There must have been something more than de-icing, as we finally took off with a one hour delay. More communication would have been appreciated from my side.

The food onboard was nice, based on the fact that it was a 25 minute flight. An apple, a yogurt with some cereals and a breakfast bar was not too bad. I also liked the frendly service of the crew.
2nd January 2026, Lufthansa LH 815, Frankfurt (FRA) – Gothenburg (GOT), Business Class
The second flight of the day brought me to Gothenburg (GOT). Again, the weather caused some minor delays, but the crew was absolutely lovely. There was sufficient bread to the cold cut and yogurt breakfast, the drink rounds were nice. I also highly appreciated having a bottle of water before take-off already. A special thanks to the purser and her younger colleague, who did a very friendly and charming service in the business class cabin.

4th January 2026, Lufthansa LH 821, Gothenburg (GOT) – Frankfurt (FRA), Business Class
For the return, I flew to Frankfurt (FRA) and then took the Express Rail. The early morning breakfast service was in fact the typical “Frankfurt breakfast platter” – some cold cuts, a nice fruit creme and bread. Not overwhelming, but it got the job done after visiting the very average Aspire Lounge in Gothenburg before. The crew was absolutely nice, though, there was also bread refill. Overall, Lufthansa gave be a good business class experience.

15th January 2026, SAS SK 628 (operated by SAS Link), Dusseldorf (DUS) – Copenhagen (CPH), Business Class
After work, it was time to head to Oslo for the EHF European Handball Champships. My first SAS leg was the typical connection from Dussldorf (DUS) to Copenhagen (CPH). Due to a delay of the inbound (which was even delayed by some minutes as the plane had to allow the landing Emrates flight to pass), we finally boarded the plane. The crew was absolutely lovely, great hospitality here. The meal was a small (and cold) three course dish. I would see the smoked duck with leek as the main dish. The shortbread on the chocolate and cherry cake was a bit too crispy and hard to eat. The more I liked the cheese selection with fig-honey compote. I’m not the biggest fan of the SAS crispbread… But you cannot deny it is very Scandinavian / Nordic.

15th January 2026, SAS SK 1474, Copenhagen (CPH) – Oslo (OSL), Business Class
The Airbus A320neo service to Oslo (OSL) was scheduled for 23:10. The flight was about in time, served by an A320neo. The meal looks quite similar. However, with Za’atar yoghurt dip with toasted pistachios, there was a “proper” first course this time. Hard to dip, though, if there is nothing but the crispbread. I really liked the smoked duck with celeriac remoulade – a bit of weird that it came with Manchego and fig-honey, as this was rather close to a cheese course. This time, SAS offered a sweet dessert, a mango and coconut cake with blueberries, which was really nice. I struggled with the crew, though – majorly, because they felt to insist speaking Danish (? could also be Norwegian), even though I multiple times replied in English. I felt that this was a rather rude behavior.

21st January 2026, SAS SK 1467, Oslo (OSL) – Copenhagen (CPH), Business Class
I had issues on the way to Oslo (OSL) with SAS staff refusing to speak English – and during check-in for the flight back to Germany, I ran into the same thing. Despite I spoke English to the check-in agent at the SAS Priority desk, she replied in Norwegian. I do understand the technical terms for flying, but I felt it is really rude. It even continued at security control. It felt a bit of sad to see the Swiss and Slovenian handball national teams being on the same flight – “my” Faroese guys should have been there in my point of view. The flight attendants felt very hectic and nervous, especially the male attendant in business class. While checking the cabin for departure, he even hit me in the face with his ellbow – without excusing.

The food on this short trip compensated a bit for that, at least. The red quinoa and cauliflower salad was nice. I absolutely loved the smorrebrod sandwich with torched salmon, miso mayonnaise and Szechuan pickled radish. The dessert was a treat as well – San Sebastian cheesecake with mango coulis. Thus, the culinary side of the flight experience with SAS was absolutely lovely.
21st January 2026, SAS SK 1621 (operated by Cityjet), Copenhagen (CPH) – Dusseldorf (DUS), Business Class
The last transfers in Copenhagen (CPH) were a bit of hectic. Reaching a quite distant gate, sometimes after a flight delay, made me have an intense and short time in Denmark. This time, it was way better. The cabin attendant in business class was absolutely lovely and charming. The food had a similar style. I really liked the starting crudite of carrots, cucumber and roasted hazelnuts. The sandwich this time was with grilled chicken, elderflower dressing and rhubarb. I preferred the salmon on the first flight – but this one was another really nice and also good-looking bite. The San Sebastian cheesecake already felt like a good, old friend – a lovely sweet delight. No issue having two of them – a vey enjoyable flight.

29th January 2026, Eurowings EW 1178, Dusseldorf (DUS) – Dubai World Central (DWC), BizClass
There was a bit of delay at departure in Dusseldorf (DUS). One reason was the mandatory de-icing. More dramatically, a mobility reduced passenger was injured during boarding – luckily, she could join the flight. After a welcome drink in-flight and somehow hot towels, the warm meal service started some 40 minutes after take-off. There was a choice of semolina pudding and omelet. I chose the latter – and it was really tasty, served with some tomato sauce, spinach and hash browns.

The service felt a bit more structured compared to my first Eurowings flight experiences to Dubai (DWC) in late 2024. After the meal, there was a snack service, where I went for some Pringles, followed by a water service. Roughly three hours after departure, the crew actively asked whether you want another hot meal. I went for the Maccheroncini Colorati, presented by a popular Italian-style restaurant franchise. I definitely liked that one better than the one I had about a year before. At the final service, some two hours before landing, I had a turkey salami sandwich, which was really nice as well.

31st January 2026, Eurowings EW 1179, Dubai World Central (DWC) – (Antalya AYT) – Dusseldorf (DUS), BizClass
I guess this flight will not be as relaxed as the outbound, one of the flight attendants said to the other before taking off in Dubai. Indeed, there were some rather strange passengers on board. The flight departed early, despite the inbound from Dusseldorf (DUS) was delayed by four hours. We profited from that there was also a Eurowings flight from Cologne-Bonn(CGN), the plane was planned to head on to Hanover (HAJ). As there is no ban on night flights there, in contrast to Dusseldorf (DUS), they altered the rotation – a smart operational move. During the flight, there was a medical incident. The crew handled it very well – but I doubt about some people’s soul when they care about getting food in this situation.

I had the same crew as on the inbound. The warm meal service was rather fast again, with a choice of chicken or vegetarian ravioli. I took the pasta, which is no culinary treat, but a solid meal. The chocolate cream was the same as on the outbound. As a snack thereafter, I went for the nice cookie and a Snickers, later followed by a salami tapas platter. As a passenger collapsed twice and had to receive treatment after a medical diversion to Antalya (AYT), the crew reduced the service thereafter – absolutely understandable and fine. Instead of the classic curry sausage, I just went for a bagel sandwich, which was really nice as well. Great work by the crew – one of the best ones I ever had. I even made a separate post about these flights afterwards.

7th February 2026, Deutsche Bahn ICE 541, Cologne Main Station – Berlin Main Station, First Class
As the Ukraine vs. Hungary floorball match in Berlin was scheduled at noon, I had to take the very first Saturday morning train from Cologne to Berlin. At these times, breakfast options at Cologne Main Station are rather limited, so that I went for an additional breakfast in the train. The French Breakfast with two bread rolls and a croissant and some sweet addition costs 7.90 EUR. Ordering via the train WiFi in First Class was possible, which I generally appreciate. The service was really quick. The dishwasher in the train did not work, so that the food was served in disposable bowls. A really nice start of the day in the German high speed train.

12th February 2026, Eurowings EW 9820 (operated by Eurowings Europe), Dusseldorf (DUS) – Milan (MXP), BizClass
My trip to the Winter Olympic Games in Milan started with a short Eurowings flight to Malpensa (MXP). From a food perspective, nothing too thrilling. The turkey salami sandwich, the cookie and the lemon-mint drink had all been stuff I had on my Dubai flights before. The crew was pretty solid on this rather short flight within Europe.

16th February 2026, ITA Airways AZ 418, Milan (LIN) – Dusseldorf (DUS), Business Class
I flew back home from Milan on my first ever ITA Airways flight. It was also my debut from the Southeast Milan Linate (LIN) Airport. Apart from two rude Atalanta Bergamo staff members in my back, the flight was rather relaxed. The crew performance – the service was in fact driven by the purser – was really nice as well. I really liked the breakfast meal. A spinach frittata, a pancake and some apple compote, coming with a yogurt drink and some fresh fruit was a nice compliment to the food I had in the lounge before.

21st February 2026, Eurowings EW 9760, Dusseldorf (DUS) – Zurich (ZRH), BizClass
I am sorry, another Eurowings flight – and my favorite platter of the sandwich, the cookie and the lemon-mint drink again. I did not like the crew that much – majorly because during turbulences, the flight attendant just felt like opening the overhead bin over the first row (aka.: over me…) just to grab her jacket (inflight!) and some other stuff, leaving the bins open for some two or three minutes. That’s a weird attitude towards safety to me.

22nd February 2026, Eurowings EW 9763, Zurich (ZRH) – Dusseldorf (DUS), BizClass
I had played the Eurowings game too often the weeks before, so that I just did not feel having another sandwich on my return from the Swiss Floorball Cup Finals. Thus, I just had a banana bread, a Snickers and the mint-lemon infused water (I just don’t get tired so far). The crew was overall nice, even though the service was a bit of limited. The First Officer obviously had one of his first passenger flights. Thus, he had brought in some family members, who he especially greeted in his announcement – very sweet! The crew got cake for that occasions – so I absolutely agree that you sometimes need to set other priorities in the cabin.
